I want to make Neeshka an archer because I don't want to have to micro her for backstabs. She has Point Blank Shot in her feat list on her character screen. She is ready to level and it shows up as a choice for feats when I go to level her. Rapid shot is not available. if I click Point Blank Shot she then shows 2 instances of point blank shot on her character menu. Whats the deal?

Also Heavy crossbow, light crossbow or shortbow for her?

Any advice appreciated. I am having problems finding the answers to my myriad of questions about this game.

There will be better responses than mine but I have always used Neeska in this way for the same reasons. Early on I give her a level of fighter which allows her to use any bow you please and an extra feat I think. I then try to give her a composite long bow to make use of eatra strength damage o top of the sneak bonus.

Not sure about the PBS bug I'm sorry.

Are you sure you don't have some item equipped that gives her Point Blank Shot (like Bracers of Archery)?

Also, as to the answer above ... you won't be able to take any Fighter levels unless you have a mod installed, I think (although later updates may have changed that).

I_raps is right I have led you astray, you need to mod the vanilla campaign in the toolset or by add on to be able to multiclass the companions.

Thanks for picking that up. Little unfair of me to be giving duff advice.

Point Blank Shot is a prerequisite for Rapid Shot. No idea why you are seeing two instances of PBS after selecting it. A bug maybe? Have you tried taking it then looking at her character sheet? Maybe it's a weird visual glitch. Hopefully someone else has a better answer.

Give Neeshka a shortbow. Crossbows are capped at two attacks per round with the Rapid Reload feat. A shortbow allows Neeshka to utilize all three base attacks per round at higher levels. There are also two shortbows with unlimited enchanted arrows worth picking up. Enchanting arrow stacks personally is a bad idea since materials are finite.

At first, reading the thread title, I felt at home in the old forums seeing a "I love Neeska" thread.  Guess not ;)

So, I started looking up bows with unlimited ammo or gave feats when readied.  I noticed lots of powerful bows can only be bought if you have the feats "Blessed of Waukeen Epithet" (a history feat only available with the NWN2 Limited Edition) or "Merchant's Friend Epithet" (only available with a pre-order).

*spoiler*

List of Longbows and where to get them:

... Or to anyone via:

givefeat 1764
givefeat 1765

If it's on MY harddrive, I get access to it.  Period.  (sorry, Axe_Edge, don't mean to blame/berate you, but I have some sore spots)

[edit]  Besides, what would a thread about Neeshka be without a little roguery?

Good call. Yes she has the bracers on... didn't think of that. I bought the 5 dollar Mac version so I have no mods or expansions. With that said will she have enough feats to take martial weapons for the Longbow or should I just go Shortbow?

Thanks all!

Even if you had the feat from an item, I don't think it should be showing twice. But it's not something I've tested much.

Just use shortbows if you're not going to use a multiclass mod (I'd take some ranger levels with her then).

I would just go with the shortbow. You're not going to make her a naturalborn killer, she just doesn't have it in her.

I'm with you.  It's a sore spot for me, too (for any game, really).  I have access to them at anytime.  Just a bummer newer players don't know about how to get these feats (nor should they have to figure out how).  The feats should have been available to everyone in later patches. Let the players choose which one they want.  Don't forget  the 3 pre-order feats for the MotB.  Can't remember if SoZ had them.

Anyway, same site, but the shortbow section:

www.sorcerers.net/Games/NWN2/Walkthrough/Items/Shortbows.php

*Edit:  How to get all of these feats should be put in a sticky to allow players to be aware that they don't have full access to the game without them.

I stand to be corrected by players with more experience than I, but if you can't multiclass I am not sure it is worth the expending the feat to get 1D8 rather than 1D6 of base damage. Better to spend that on improving your bow skills and sticking with the shortbow.

I don't know the items list well enough to know if there is a longbow so significnatly better than any shortbow out there that is worth spending a feat to get access to.

$5? A steal. There are ways to get the expansions working with the Mac version, as well as ways to get the Windows version to run on Mac without Windows. There are a small number of us who play on the Mac but we don't take "no" for an answer. If you don't also have the WIndows version of the PC though you limit your options somewhat. My suggestion is to buy NWN2 Platinum so you get a complete set of the Windows versions.  There are already instructions available for how to copy the expansion over from a Bootcamp partition where they are installed on Windows to the Mac so they can be played natively.  And I will shortly be posting the steps to create a Wineskin Mac OS X wrapper that will run NWN2 and the expansions. I just haven't quite given up on getting the Toolset to work on Mac yet.

Having the expansions installed will open up a world of new content and options for you. Definitely worth the trouble.

Yeah I think it was a good deal for 5 bucks too. I don't have windows on my Mac and to be honest I have never, not ever, used a windows PC. I would be as lost as an Alabama bullfrog in a New York City sewer lol. I'm sure I would muck it up in a matter of minutes.
