I romanced ash in the first game, in ME2 I flirted with Tali but rejected he fairly late in the game but it was before the sex scene. The picture of ash in my cabin is facing up, so I know this indicates that I stayed "faithful" to her, but do you think that despite this ME3 might take into account that I pursued Tali for a little while?
I ask this because I saw an article in the escapist that said that romance is not simple a yes/no, binary system, it will take into account everything that you've said/done with any of the pontential LI's. The article was a bit vague so I was not really 100% sure of what they meant.
What do you guys think?

Flirting is usually flagged, yeah, but I'm not sure to what extent the game uses the flags in dialogue.
It's not at all binary, there are flags for things like flirting with Samara.
Even if you did flirt with Tali, the consequences aren't huge (at all) for the VS relationship.

Seeing as Liara can tell you off for cheating in LOTSB, I assume there are flags.

I think you misunderstood, When Liara tells you off, it only happens if you have completed a romance and actually have the sex scene with that particular LI. If you just Flirted with an LI but didn't complete the romance then she doesn't say anything.
