I find it amusing how you just assume its only the biotic classes. What about Engineer? Does this weight system not also effect them as they're a caster class? Something more different going on there im not aware of?
The only thing I can really see this forcing me to do (which isn't a fair word do use as its still a choice on my end) is max out my class passive first to up my weight limit. For some reason, in the recent cam-video of a demonstration the soldier only had 1 point in his passive. He was missing out on a lot of bonus capacity because of that.
It seems to be setup to mimic how ME2 was by the end of it with the bonus training in how much any given class can carry if they want to. Plus Adept has a bunch of little bits in powers that completely remove cooldowns all together if you combo in certain ways, or heavily reduce for a duration.
Armor-type powers also effectively add to your encumbrance directly. So Barrier, for instance, is a perm-duration on/off toggle that adds to your encumbrance like your carrying an extra weapon. Keeping it on effectively means you can use your powers less. But your far more resilient as a whole so thats kind of a worth wild trade off. Also a little short-duration buff when you turn it off, think it boosts biotic power dmg/force. At which point you get the skills cooldown.
I get what your saying either way Cerberus but we just got 2 views on it. I like it cause it supports trying out different play styles. You don't seem to like it cause you... I dunno, seem to dislike the idea of choice like that? Would rather everyone is force limited or can just carry everything with out penalty?
I just can't agree with that. I hated the forced limitations of ME2, the awkward 'your carrying everything but can't use any of it but this' in ME1. This system just seems to make the most sense with out letting Adepts carry everything and still have no penalty. I mean what would you do to balance that out?
You have to have some kind of limitation for it, so what would you do instead? Make it effect... what movement speed? How powerful powers are but not there cooldowns?
Engineer is my favourite and I am looking forward to using powers more frequently, maybe only one all purpose weapon.

Becasue, bioware doesn't want one class to pawn all others, why be a soldier when you can be an expert biotic AND a master of all weapons? It makes sense to restrict classes.CerberusSoldier wrote...

Well in case of firepower other classes are lacking, there should be some kind of boost, although not too much of one.
Bioware could fix that by allowing the other classes to cary any amount of weapons they want . Plus why all this freaking class restriction crap any way Skyrim does not have this issue . Bioware needs to get with the modern day form of rpgs .
thats fine Bioware can stay stuck in the past with class restrictions but other rpg games like Skyrim sell 10 million + already you tell me which rpg style game is more popular now .

CerberusSoldier, here's something that might make you happy. I can't bring up a source, but I strongly remember reading about how keeping your weight load really low will actually make cooldowns FASTER then normal. Like (making this one up), if reave has a 6 second cooldown, and you have very little weight it cuts to 3 or 4 seconds. So it actually gives adepts a faster cooldown then they've ever had in previous games. Quite frankly, if my memory is correct and this is the case, adepts might be much better then in ME2.
wow so a pistol only Adept can really use its powers a lot . good I now see the reason behind this idea

I dig Skyrim but you still need to make choices and most people veer in one direction or another, i.e. rogue/assassin or sword and board. If you don't cheat you cannot be an arcane master AND a great warrior, maybe you can be a Destruction Master but not everything.

We've been trying to tell you the whole time, the less you carry the greater your cooldowns, which makes casters much better at being casters.

Oh, well I think it is cool the way it is. I want to be able to cast powers often.

Yes, and it's not just adepts that benefit. For another example, a soldier with only an assault rifle and nothing else will have fast enough cooldowns to be able to near infinitely adrenaline rush. I don't know if the cooldown will outstrip the duration (that would be... Brokenly overpowered), but it will add a lot of power to you.
ALL classes can benefit from this system.

This isn't skyrim! Its mass effect, and either way its gunna sell in excess amounts. And calling mass effect outdated, is just plain wrong, mass effect has done nothing but bring rpg's a step closer to perfection...CerberusSoldier wrote...

Yeah I like it cause, if nothing else, I don't have to bring everything. Often times there is only 2-3 weapons I ever want on me at any given moment regardless of my class choice. Sometimes I only want 1, such as my Adept I wanna just roll with a basic pistol. Sentinel on the other hand I wanna use a Revanant. Also curious if Barrier will stack with Power Armor. Screw cooldowns. If I can ill keep both of them on and mow **** down with my Revanant hah! You know, use a power everyonce in awhile but I just got this image in my mind of massive shield/barrier induced tank with an LMG.
That sounds viable. I read in the powers thread a bioware developer said that someone on the team rolled a sentinel who got fortification and was going around with tech armor and fortification on and, by his words, was a supremely hard to kill character (especially with how fortification restores health now).

Good. That level of broken would be worse then ME1 adepts or ME1 soldiers with immunity specialization from shock trooper.

I have a feeling that the more powerful variants such as widow, revenant will weigh more leaving you with a similar dilemma to ME2, (infiltrator)
cheers to you, captain obvious!
how else would they balance an lmg having high damage, good rate of fire and decent accuracy in comparison to other assault rifles?

So this new flexible gun system was like a omg i can carry a widow and a shotgun now. But if the widow weighs too much then i might be screwed.
Unless i can remove my sub machine gun.
Also apparently as your default power evolves on infiltrator or vanguard you can choose weather to increase your weapon weight capacity or squad damage or something.

it would be cool if you could be a weaponless infiltrator , cloak, melee, cloak again 1.1 seconds later and repeat

Apparently cloak cooldown is directly tied to how long you are cloaked, not sure how that works or maybe it has no real duration but you are penalised for staying cloaked too long?
