Why is the Engineer so unpopular? and do you think ME3 will change this?

It's just so satisfying to hit a sniper or rocket trooper with a curved Incinerate. The research project cost reduction is also welcome. The Geth Shielding is a great bonus power to use too.

I do wonder if it's a hold over from ME1 a bit, since they weren't as distinctive then. But 2 improved the class greatly, and the turret and flaming ****slap in 3 look to be going even further, so I hope they start getting more love.

Because people only spam Combat Drone, hence don't know how to play it properly.
To be honest I like the other powers, especially cryo and incinceration more than combat drone....

I find it sort of boring. U can cause a lot of damage if u play it right, but I just prefer other classes. Maybe if they had a turret of some sort that was deploy-able I would play it more often. Though I think u can hack enemy turrets now so that might be a good edge over other classes
Your wish is granted. ME3 Engineer can deploy a Turret!

But I guess they seem boring or spammable - and it's not like you can't spam any other class's ability eg soldier's Adrenaline Rush, now is it. (BTW I also enjoy playing as a soldier, and I especially love sniping with the Widow, it's just a pity that my aim is so poor )
My son thinks that the engineer is the easiest class to play on Insanity, but I don't care - I have fun in this supporting role leaving other members of my team to play to their strengths. That's probably why I would play engineer in the MP - I don't see anything wrong in being at the rear of the action if the mission is successful. Facilitators FTW.

I hope ME3 will make my favorite classes even more kick-ass. Yeeeessss...

I have no idea. The Engineer is my favorite class, and the best class for Insanity unless you have the Firepower DLC (then it's the Soldier with a Mattock). I've heard it said, though, that most players don't use powers much, and the Engineer is a "caster" class. No idea why the Adept is more popular - I find Adepts frustrating to play on higher difficulties in ME2.Stardusk78 wrote...
I personally love the Engineer but I have often read that something like only 5% of playerdom plays the Engineer. Why is this? and do you think ME3 will reverse this trend?

Adept used to be my favourite class but once I imported my engineer from ME that changed. I love playing the engineer - curved incinerate, cryo blast, and the drones. In ME3 they look to be even better with turrets.

With the flaming pimp slap you won't be support, you will be the griller!

'Til now though I've only really prefered Soldier over Adept and Engineer because only that class had access to all the weapons before and had better health and now you can use all weapons with every class I could see Engineer moving to my second fav class after Adept. I think i'll probably aways prefer Adept over Engineer unless BioWare can figure out how to combine tech powers into combos.
Still I always use Soldier first so I can use that class as a benchmark to compare the other classes against and I imagine everybody else does the same so BioWare and fans shouldn't get too disappointed when they see that 95% of people play soldier the first time... because it makes perfect sense. It doesn't necessarily make other classes like Engineer less popular. This is why I don't think popularity of classes are necessarily reflected in the statistics and I think we'll see this with multiplayer.

ME3 has more combos though, including tech ones. Think there maybe more cross-class ones as well. I know I'm actually looking forward to using Cryo now. Hated it before (having to get them to HP just to use it kinda blew). But Cryo + Incendiary = Combo Effect of... some... kind. I'm personally hoping for Thermite + ICe style BOOM but that maybe to warp-bomby. Either way more combos are welcome.
That and as for MP, I'm looking forward to Engineer as a side char with the turret. I've always enjoyed employing turrets in game modes like that. Throw it down + sniper rifle or AR or something in the back ground keeping it safe, really able to lock down an area to help out the team. That kind of stuff can be rather enjoyable.

Of course, this doesn't apply to ME2 and ME3 where you can use any type of weapon or armor. Well, in ME2 I have to reach a certain point to get a new weapon class unlocked, but that's tolerable. So maybe I should try out a non soldier based class, as up till now I've stuck solely to soldiers, infiltrators, and vanguards. I mean, I would only have to get through ME1, and then it's off to medium and heavy armors. Besides, with ME1 bonus powers, I could give an engineer any weapon I want... Probably assault rifle. Probably assault rifle in ME2 also.

Not that i think its cheap but having someone flank brings a whole extra dynamic to the game (i know the drone has same affect by making guys get up from cover) and
In me2 if you want to flank the enemy properly you have to do it your self b'cos your squad mates can only be directed so far cos you won't be able to make them take cover on the far side of a box cos you can't get the arrow to place itself there lol
