Why is the Engineer so unpopular? and do you think ME3 will change this?

Engineer sucks because it doesnt do direct damage(or any damage). People want to KILL. ^^.

Very few people like playing a support class.

I think you played Team Fortress 2.

No direct damage? are you crazy?

Incinerate burns through armor, overload damages shields. Explosive and Attack Combat drone do direct damage.

I suppose it is not flashy enough, personally I always played Engineers back in ME1. Then mostly played them in ME2. I quite love them, very nice utility, damage output and just generally interesting abilities. Think I'll go Infiltrator first though, with ME2 the idea of cloaking + shotgun to the back just makes up for the lack of other Engineer abilities.

Area AI hacking on normal is the most fun i've had with engineer/infiltrator.

I did once hack the Geth Colossus on insanity on Halestrom. That was epic too.

AI hacking is replaced by Sabbotage, which at the same time jams up weapons, very cool.

Incinerate burns unprotected organics to death.
Overload knocks out unprotected synthetics.

You could do hacking and sabotage in ME1... is it just sabotage in ME3?

Engineer is my second favorite class after infiltrator, although my paragon engineer is my canon. When I beat me1 on insanity for the first time with him, I had a blast supporting my squad, aka garrus and kaidan. It was even better with the medic spec and shotgun training.

ai hacking, overload, incinerate. All support skills. Truth is, noone cares about them. An Engineer is basically a shotgun soldier without any protection or combat skills.

My Shepard is a dumb grunt who gets lucky at the right times. He's not smart enough to be an engineer, after all he was a petty thief in the slums of Detroit before joining the Alliance. Spray and pray soldier and hulk smash vanguard all the way.

Never played in ME2, but in ME1 I played more of a support to Liara and Ashley and they kicked everyone's ass lol. In all honesty, not much fun.

I'll give it a try in ME3.

Engineer is very cool, and the most challenging I think, it's great to play on insanity.
It fits to a full paragon shepard with spacer background.
Its not overpowered but still can kick massive ammounts of ass.

(1) Its signature move is not unique enough. The only class whose class unique power that is shared by squadmates. Not just one squadmate, but two squadmates. Not to mention that enemy Engineers routinely spam Drone (again, unlike with any other class), which really cheapens it.

(2) Its signature move is not flashy enough. Half the time you use it, you can't even see it properly. And when you do see it, it doesn't *seem* to do much - well actually it helps a lot, but the visual effects are very humble compared to the other classes.

(3) The rest of its arsenal isn't "cool" enough either. The only class who has neither good guns to begin with (and super guns to pick up on DCS) nor biotics. Also, the best of its abilities except Drone is Incinerate, which also gets cheapened because enemy Engineers routinely spam it.

(4) The class passive give a -25% research cost discount. This is completely useless, and seems more like a lame make up for a lackluster class.

(5) If (1)~(4) did not dissuade you from playing Engineer, and you like the class and seriously play it, it becomes boringly OP. Well, it's perhaps not as OP as Mattock Soldier or Assault Sentinel, but it alone out of all the classes manages to be OP without looking spectacular in the process.

Engineer is a boss. I decided to play it and some missions were too easy cuz of all the abilities. You can damage enemies, you can freeze enemies, you can distract enemies and you can control enemies. The engineer can do it all.

Because biotics are cool and tech exist only for infiltrators.

I really enjoyed engineer actually. AI hack someone. Then send in a cover drone as a distraction then I start supporting the hacked guy. Otherwise I just use all my powers, mainly incinerate and overload, or ryo when I needed it.

I have a shallow reason why I don't play the Engineer and tech clases more often; I feel more badass being a biotic than a tech guru. I think throwing 1000 N of force at something is more 'wow' than hacking his gun.

Gameplay wise it is very strong and fun to play. I think it is an exciting class because it doesn't have the repetitive nature of the other classes. You can really finesse your gameplay and mix up your tactics while with classes such as the Soldier or Vanguard your biggest choice is what weapon do I pick.

I did some Engineer videos a few weeks ago, and I was surprised at how fast it cleared levels. It was only 20-30s off pace of my Vanguard which I've played much more and I get the perk of Charge cutting down time significantly. I also took much less damage on my Engineer.

I always considered Engineer and Sentinel classes to be ME 2 easy mode, so I played them once and left them alone ever since.

Never played one and never will, their powers don't interest me in the slightest.

I'm an Adept/Sentinel guy.
