Why is the Engineer so unpopular? and do you think ME3 will change this?

Because it makes no sense. Engineers aren't commanders anyhow its like the secretary being the chief of police it makes no sense to fallow someone in that job field into battle. If he was these squad leader of an engineer group that's one thing but he's commanding soldiers.
Commanders usually don't come out of Enlisted ratings normally unless they spent a great deal of time in the field. Learn what you're talking about.
Shepard's class is a specialization, not job description.

Actually,
Soldier/Sentinel
Vanguard/Infiltrator
Engineer/Adept
This was basically confirmed a fiew years ago by several boards.
I have no clue what you're saying here or what point you're making. What's with the class/class thing?
It's a Tier listing based on how well each class performs in the game, and mainly on Insanity. Soldier and Sentinel are the easiest to play, Vanguard and Infiltrator are great damage indicators, but are entirely based on play style, player skill, and player intelligence and common sense. Engineer and Adept are the weakest, but thats only because of survivability, damage out put, and power strength.

Area AI hacking on normal is the most fun i've had with engineer/infiltrator.
I did once hack the Geth Colossus on insanity on Halestrom. That was epic too.
No, you didn't. The Colossus is unhackable because it doesn't have a health bar.
Why do people feel the need to lie?

So a run of the mill soldier can be a commander but engineers cant? Infiltrators can too but engineers can't?
Engineer is my favourite class, anything tech based I just love it. Not to mention the usefulness/cc of the engie's powers combined with squad members.

Oh well, it doesn't matter to me if a large group of people don't like it - it was fun in ME1, really great in ME2, and I'm looking forward to seeing how it pans out in ME3.

I like engineer because they have options and can handle all types of enemies, whether living or robotic. They have options on how to kill things. Do I want to set that enemy on fire? Do I want to freeze it? Or do I feel like just taking it out with my gun? If it's a geth, I can overload it or hack it so it'll start attacking the other geth around it.
The engineer is probably the most flimsy class there is. But it can also do absolutely anything you want it to, especially once you start throwing in bonus powers. Can any other class handle absolutely any situation as well? It depends on which one you're talking about, but not as well as the engineer can.

ME1 tarnished the engineer and the new players in ME2 were drawn to the soldier as it was familar and simple but when I do another playthrough on ME1 I will be either adept, sentinel or soldier but change to adept
I don't do ME 1 runs anymore, I wish I set up a hex editor or modio. I'm getting tired of playing that game to change the outcome of a few choices.

I was one of them tbh.
Recently I decided to give the class a shot and found it amazingly strong, balanced and (most important of all) funny as hell.
Best experience I had in game after sentinel.

:huh:Engineer does not equal collared shirt, drafting board, and compass in this case. There are plenty of special forces soldiers througout the world that have the title "engineer" and yet still do all the things every other soldier does, i.e. the fighting and the dying. And "Commander" is not a job, it is a rank.
