Engineers are going to be godsends in Multiplayer with their drones distracting the big badass enemies like the Brute, Atlas and Phantom

I still won't play as one. I will be the Vanguard blowing the brains out of the distracted enemies..

http://social.biowar...index/8974601/1

Also Wintermist Poll: http://social.biowar...575/polls/1827/

1st Place: Vanguard 1055 votes
2nd Place: Soldier 1026 votes
3rd Place: Infiltrator 1023 votes
4th Place: Adept 569 votes
5th Place: Sentinel 469 votes
6th Place: Engineer 198 votes
No preference: 441 votes

So this I say about the Engineer. People forget how amazing this class is. Most people never even try it. They think of a guy with a couple of handy skills but not real combat abilites. Those people couldn't be more wrong.

Engineer is perhaps the most equiped to deal with any situation.

Need a distraction: Combat drone is up and ready (do you have a pet name for him/her/it?)
Shields: Overload can handle them.
Set some guy on fire: Incinerate will take care of that.
Freeze someone: Cryo blast will do the trick.
Need to hack a robot: AI Hacking.

Personally I prefer Adepts and Vanguards, but engineer gets third place because it is the most versatile class.

If I want a class that makes me feel in control I choose adept
If I want a class that makes me feel like a rockstar I choose Vanguard
If I want a class for stealth and sniping I choose an infiltrator
If I want a class for tanking, defence and protection removal I choose a Sentinel
If I want to shout "This is Sparta" and fire bullets in slow motion I choose the Soldier.

However if I want a class that has me prepared for all situations you throw at me, I'll come running towards an engineer. Sure it's trumped by vanguard and adept in my books, but Engineers are equiped with such amazing powers that being at the bottom of the poll is injustice. Give this class a try if you haven't already done so. You'll be surprised.

(1) Its signature move is not unique enough. The only class whose class unique power that is shared by squadmates. Not just one squadmate, but two squadmates. Not to mention that enemy Engineers routinely spam Drone (again, unlike with any other class), which really cheapens it.

(2) Its signature move is not flashy enough. Half the time you use it, you can't even see it properly. And when you do see it, it doesn't *seem* to do much - well actually it helps a lot, but the visual effects are very humble compared to the other classes.

(3) The rest of its arsenal isn't "cool" enough either. The only class who has neither good guns to begin with (and super guns to pick up on DCS) nor biotics. Also, the best of its abilities except Drone is Incinerate, which also gets cheapened because enemy Engineers routinely spam it.

(4) The class passive give a -25% research cost discount. This is completely useless, and seems more like a lame make up for a lackluster class.

(5) If (1)~(4) did not dissuade you from playing Engineer, and you like the class and seriously play it, it becomes boringly OP. Well, it's perhaps not as OP as Mattock Soldier or Assault Sentinel, but it alone out of all the classes manages to be OP without looking spectacular in the process.

Haha! :D
That just about sums it up for me.

I found it dull in ME1 (ok medic spec and maxing medicine/first aid was fun for a while, but for operative infiltrator was a lot more fun). And your description says why I found it dull in ME2.

Infiltrator fulfills everything I like about tech powers and adds some nifty combat powers to that too.

I am one of those guys who is dissatisified with merely trying out one class. I like to try out all the classes. So merely playing my favourite classes (adept and vanguard) isn't enough. I want to try them all out.

With drone becomming turret along with heavy melee, engineer might improve in terms of percentage of votes. People might try out engineer for the first time. I definitely recomend this class.

However it will probably sadly end up being 6th place simply because of the class name "engineer". It doesn't envoke the idea of being a badass on the battlefield. Plus it is not a class associated with big guns. The top three classes are associated with big guns. Engineers are associated with reparing the big anti-tank artillary, hacking computers and staying as far away from the heat of battle as possible.

I've tried several classes in ME 1, and all of the classes for ME 2. Soldier, Engineer, and Infiltrator were my least used in ME 2. ME 1 wouldn't do me justice, I only played the Adept and Infiltrator more than once, because of boredom, and then lack of interest in actually playing the game after six times of one Adept.

Engineer is my favorite class after a Vanguard. A shotgun Engineer absolutely wrecks anything, bring along the GPS for Collector missions and you're a less (not at all) tanky Sentinel with a drone. That class is a hell of a lot of fun.

Yeah I suppose soldiers and vanguards have incendiary ammo but meh.
Infiltrators and Engineers are the only classes with incinerate! Incinerate! Come on bro, live up to your name!!!

I love the engineer because it's so easy to strip enemies of their defenses. I was able to deplete shields, armor and barriers (until I got Geth shield boost) on my own. The drone definitely got me out of some hairy situations. Plus those powers can keep most bad guys at a nice distance for sniping (my engineer had sniper training).

Because people only spam Combat Drone, hence don't know how to play it properly.

To be honest I like the other powers, especially cryo and incinceration more than combat drone....

I agree. I rarely used the combat drone. It dies way too quickly. I would use it as a quick distraction but definitely not a spammable power. I loved cryo - amazing cooldown with awesome cc. Incinerate is a great ability to use because it's SO strong. It's even the strongest against armor (x2.4 damage vs. x2 from warp).

Because it seems like a support class, most people want to do damage up close and personal, and the lack of guns

Combat drone has such a short CD it is easily an effective spam power. It's the best way to get someone out of cover other than charging them.

I hate playing engineer because it's the "scientist" class and Shepard doesn't sound or act like a scientist. Other than that it's a fun class to play aggressively.

That was a badass video. You can be a bad ass whilst sitting down and watching the fire works.

I was talking about why people have neglected one of the best classes in the game. If you read my earlier post you'd understand that I dig the hell out of that class.

Awesome video. Shame I haven't played Team Fortress series yet.

It's not my favorite class but I'm planning on doing an engineer run once I've done my initial vanguard playthrough. The turret, infectious cryo blasts and burning back hands are too tempting to pass up.

Its too passive of a class with too many support powers, and not enough high offensive opportunities. Hell, its default weapon is a shotgun, which is great for getting up close, but not good for range.

In my opinion, the Engineer needs to be flashier, and more offensive. I propose putting a high tech shoulder mounted blaster on Engineer-Shep's shoulder, as the highest level of "Attack Drone".

It's all in the build. You can go for either debuffer or distractor engineers. Guess which one is good for shotgun wielders/more fun?
