It's more of a support role than a viable frontline combat option...

I always laugh when I hear this, my engineer was one of the most aggresive classes I've played because of dmg potential with powers and maneuverabilty. It was great solo and it was an excellent frontline combat option for me even when compared to my vanguard (though still not better than it).

I know right? Why do people think its a support class? Its not like your giving out ammo or health packs to your squad. Almost all the skills the engineer has damages the enemy in someway.

Eh, I just think if I'm rolling tech I'm going Infiltrator or Sentinel, full Engineer just doesn't appeal to me maybe since I don't care about the combat drone at all and would rather have sniper rifles or that fancy armor.

Hmh, Engineer is easiest class in ME2.:?

It's even easier in ME3. Why fire your guns when you can deploy turrets and drones to do that for you?

I found engineer rather underwhelming until I got the Collector ship weapon training. I found Sentinel and Adept, the other two classes with pistol/SMG, to be a little more interesting at first. With Sentinel, Tech Armour provides great tankiness and overload + warp is very nice. Adept is pretty flashy plus Singularity is awesomewinmegasaucepower.

All of that doesn't stop Drone CC + shotgun to the face from being mighty fun though.

Hmm, not sure why people don't like engineer... Maybe it's cause they don't know how to use them properly, but Engineer and Infiltrator are the best classes in my book. :)

That was a badass video. You can be a bad ass whilst sitting down and watching the fire works.

I was talking about why people have neglected one of the best classes in the game. If you read my earlier post you'd understand that I dig the hell out of that class.

Awesome video. Shame I haven't played Team Fortress series yet.

naah... I've read it, I was just searching for an opportunity to post that vid :P

Because In ME1 it had the worst abilities. In ME2 it continued in that vein the worst abilities. I don't think ME3 is going to really change it all that much. Seriously Engineer in ME1 and 2 sucked. In ME1 you had combo classes that gave you better stuff. In ME2 I chose the adept for overall better play style. So yeah... Engineer sucked by far.

I found engineer not that great in ME1, but in ME2 it's a powerhouse.

His only weakness is barriers, which can be negated with the Assualt Rifle or the SMG. Otherwise Incinerate, Cryoblast and Overload give the Engineer 3 main offensive abilities.
The Combat Drone supplements by being a distraction shifting attention or getting enemies out of cover.
I can understand if you find the emphasis on using those powers not to your liking, but you can't actually say that they have the worst abilities.

I know that this has been stated before but my problem with the Engineer was that they were boring to me. I also HATED the weapon restrictions imposed (Pistol & shotgun? GTFOH), and the global cooldowns means that I am out of the action a lot more than I would like. Not my thing.

Where do people keep getting that Shotguns are standard Engineer equipment?

I'm trying to figure out how such a text-based society can have so many illiterate people.

It doesn't matter how good the Engineer is just the WORD Engineer gives a bad first impression. Why don't you just put in the classes Doctor or Architect as well?

Vanguard with Biotic Charge? Cool!
Infiltrator with Cloaking? Neat.
Engineer with Combat Drone? Uhhhhh.......

And besides the Engineer just doesn't fit my playstyle a.k.a hyperaggressive.

Engineer was my favorite class in the first game, but I'd say it's tied for second in ME2. I'm really looking forward to playing the class again in ME3.

First I thought Engineer was a boring defense-stripping class. I can strip defenses faster with guns in most cases, and the recharge time at the beginning was killing me.

Then I realized that if you punch frozen enemies, they shatter in one hit. Suddenly I realized that while you need to focus on damage or duration, frost is friggen sweet.

If you can make it work......

I can't.  It also doesn't help that I'm on console and limited to 3 hotkeys.

I played as the engineer back in NYCC because i saw little info on it. i wanted to see how it was. i didnt really have time get comfortable with it, because i wasnt used to some of the powers like the turret as well as the cover mechanics. but i liked it. and i have a character for each class so ill be playing engineer anyway.

The number one reason why the Engineer class is so unpopular, is because it's named "Engineer."

What a ridiculous name for a class in a combat oriented game. They should have called it something cooler, like "Destroyer," or "Tech Master."

AKA, people are judging the book by its cover.

Well, good riddance in that case.

Those are terrible alternatives.
