Didn't game go through a website rewrite a few months ago that was about as well organised as going for a drink in a brewery? I wouldn't be surprised if its all inter-related. I cannot fathom why game group can be the only source for these Collectors Editions in the UK when they clearly fail to get it right time after time..... They better not mess this up, I've ordered an Xbox and ps3 CE in store....... *Udina Fist Shake ensues*
I don't think the fact GAME keep screwing up are any concern of Bioware/EA's. At the end of the day, so long as they order a large enough amount of stock from them and ensure the relevant cash is handed over, its not really an issue for them. Its only really GAME's problem, but since they know they're the only retailer selling the CE, they know they don't have competition - which is likely why they made the agreement in the first place.
The bottom line is GAME are used to being a monopoly, and its only since Amazon and Play etc became big that they've had serious competition. Exclusives are their best way of attracting custom, since they've no idea how to stay ahead on merit.
EA probably would sell a lot more CEs if they just sold them through whoever is on the market, but I guess that is a decision for their own marketing people.
Like I say, I'm just glad I'm not ordering on 360.

Not yet...that's not to say it won't happen though...

A question to those who had their pre-orders cancelled...which version did you pre-order? 360, PS3 or PC?
XBox 360 for me. I am guessing these are all XBox 360 cancellations as the PS3 and PC ones are still available.
I am convinced that this is an over-allocation issue and they're making excuses to cover up.

I scanned over the thread and didn't see if anyone posted this link but it's a message to their customers concerning the pre-orders that were cancelled. Seems it was a big mess up that occurred back in August.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Missing orders in Account Summary - During the migration of some orders and preorders from our old system to the new system, some orders failed to transfer correctly. These orders were securely retained on the old system whilst our technical teams worked to move them correctly. This took us longer than we had anticipated but during this period, all the affected orders were held safe and any concerns that they had been accidentally cancelled are not founded. There remain a small number of orders that have yet to be migrated and we continue to work to resolve this as soon as possible. If you are still missing an order from your "Track Order" page, we are aware of the issue and you do not need to alert us to the fact, however if you wish to discuss any missing orders, please contact us via email at customer.services@game.co.uk.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Also, if this was due to an issue back in August, it doesn't explain why people's pre-orders (including mine) which were placed much later are now being cancelled.
I am forming the opinion that Game are a bunch of shysters....

But the marketing/PR fallout of this happening with GAME preorders again may well make it EAs problem

How? Why would it become EA's problem? At worst they just decide GAME were a bad choice and cut them loose. So long as they turn a profit, why should they care?

Perception is a wonderful thing..... Just because it doesn't become a literal problem for EA doesn't mean it will stop people blaming/ looking for recompense from EA. Rationally, it's not really EA's problem, but when the proverbial hits the fan, there will be some that won't be thinking rationally.

Yeah, thats what I did. I went into GAME yesterday and put down a £5 deposit just to be on the safe side. I'm sure I'll get my online pre-order aswell, but since I didn't want the hassle of calling them to cancel my online order. I'm selling it to a friend who wasn't originally going to get the CE.Kamikaze_1 wrote...
Hang on, I've skimmed through a bit of this thread and apparently if you physically pre-ordered a CE at a Gamestation outlet, that pre-order is still intact? Is this true? Cos that's what I did (along with laying down a GBP5.00 deposit)

"I can confirm that this is the correct order number for your preorder of Mass Effect xxxxxxxxxxxx"
And gave me the order number for my mass effect order. What's odd is I know the order number for that, it's earlier on my order history, and I never mentioned mass effect in my email to them.
As of now my me3 order is still "unshipped" but it makes me wonder if they bodged something up on their records which has lead to this unknown order on my account and people's me3 preordered seemingly cancelled for no valid reason.

There's Amazon, who I buy the vast majority of my games from. They sometimes get CEs, but miss out on many of the big releases. Amazon UK, I mean, other bits of Amazon seem to be a bit more switched on from what I can tell.Klijpope wrote...

They seem to be very good at getting exclusives on CEs. Which is annoying as I'd never use them otherwise: there's nearly always some problem or other where Game is concerned and their customer service is appalling.insomniac13 wrote...
Any reason why GAME is the only UK retailer that sold the Collector's Edition? Baffeling.
There aren't any other specialist game retail chains in the UK: there's Gamestation, but that too is owned by GAME. Gamestop had a few stores in some places but are pulling out - no on else has a national presence.
The only other game stockists with a national presence are supermarkets and HMV, which is gradually turning into a smartphone boutique.
If publishers want to deal with a large specialist retailer in the UK, GAME is the only option.

To be honest I'd prefer if stores like amazon or HMV get more exclusives instead of Game all the time. It's incidents like this that make consumers lose confidence at a time when financially stores canny afford that to happen

Um... *scratches head*...
Well, if your point is that they're people out there who just point the finger at blame at everyone when stuff doesn't go there way, then I suppose. Realistically I can't see this happening on any large scale, however - ordinarily when people complain, they complain to the entity that they believe wronged them - the idea that people will in droves simply ignore GAME and go directly to EA to demand replacements, frankly, sounds silly. People don't think like that.

Play.com sometimes have limited editions, the only problem there is in my experience play's customer service is on par with games (as I found out when they sent me ps3 version of a limited edition game instead of the 360 version I ordered, which has sold out by the time the delivery arrived)

I think Play.com's approach is to ensure as much as possible that people don't need to contact customr services, which they're admittedly are terrible at. As a retailer I find them reliable and easy to deal with so long as stuff doesn't go wrong, in which case its almost worth cancelling the order altogether.
I too would prefer someone other than GAME got exclusives, but realistically GAME clearly consider securing exclusive deals to be much higher priority then places like Amazon and HMV. While that is the case, they'll keep getting the exclusives.

They send replies all the time. The only problem is that the reply tends to come from someone who hasn't read your email properly.
Here's an example from my personal quest to find out whether GAME were offering the Valkyrie assualt rifle as a pre-order bonus, reads from bottom to top:
Hi, Thank you for your email.
I wish to confirm that the N7 warfare pack is only applicable to the Collectors edition. Regrettably we have fulfilled our preorder allocation for the Collectors Edition on the Xbox format. However I am happy to confirm that we have the ps3 version available. Please follow the website link below;

Subject: RE: GAME: Contact Us - Pre-order Enquiry!
Hi, You haven't actually answered my question. I'm aware of what comes with the Collector's Edition. I'm actually asking whether the promotional items being mentioned by Bioware as being available to customers who pre-ordered, are being honoured by GAME. They're very specific about it on their website but there is no mention of any pre-order items or offers on the GAME website. Are you saying there are no pre-order offers? If so, why are Bioware reporting that GAME offer them?

Customer Message:
Hello, I currently have a pre-order set up for the PC version of Mass Effect 3 Collector's Edition. According to the Bioware website, there appears to be several pre-order items available, with the Argus Assault Rifle available to anyone who pre-orders ME3 from anywhere, and the N7 Warfare Gear available to anyone in the UK who pre-orders through GAME, in addition to the extra already included in the Collector's Edition. There is no mention of this on the GAME website - can I assume that these items will be available to me on release? Will GAME.co.uk be sending me an email code or some such nearer the time?
...
At the end of which I had to phone them to re-ask the same question.

For anyone who's wondering about the product page, i'm sure this has been posted before so i'm just reposting it.
It comes up with an error message which suggests the game is not even in their database anymore.
