Possibly, but Officer would imply Military Rank.  In six months its highly unlikely that Garrus went back to Turian Space to re-join the Turian military, or impossible to think he'd rejoin C-sec. 

Also, it would be unlogical to make achievements for Garrus, and leave out Liarra and Tali.  He is also a confirmable KIA for the ME 2 Suicide mission, another reason why they wouldn't make him that.

Good point. I went with Garrus in that it seems unlikely that you'd get an achievement for recruiting a squad member you get by default (the VS and James), and that the achievements are laid out in such a way that you can reconstruct the plot of the game ("Driven" for beating Earth, "Bringer of War" for Mars, etc.) and that you recruit Garrus on Palaven. 

However, you make a good point with there being a lack of achievements for Tali. Liara is a possibility, but she's not really an officer. Might just be the Achievement for (POSSIBLE SPOILERS, NOT REALLY SURE) bringing the VS back on board the Normandy after being injured at the end of the Mars level. (END SPOILERS).

It clarifies A veteran Officer.  Could mean you can recruit specialists to the Normandy.  Possibly the temp characters to help in the Final battle, or people like Hacket or Kirrahe.

You could be right, it's just it's placement so early on in the game that makes me think it's a recruitment achievement. Then again, they did say that the Normandy would be host to a variety of temp. NPC's (diplomats, generals, etc.) so maybe this is that.

If it is, I doubt it's Kirrahe, for the same reasons that it's unlikely to be Garrus: Kirrahe can (really easily, unlike Garrus) end up dying during the assault on Virmire, so it's unlikely they would have an achievement rewarding players for keeping a minor NPC alive in ME1, and not for keeping a major Squad Mate/LI alive in ME2.

Has anyone considered the possibility of secret achievements? I'm not sure how they work, but they wouldn't be on the released list, right?

Though I'm an ME1 vet myself, I'm of the opinion that those who started with ME2 (PS3 players and otherwise) shouldn't have to worry about that. Some other bennie above and beyond getting all the cool ME1 characters would be nice -- maybe a gun that doesn't use thermal clips (yes, Bioware, I am still on this) -- but I don't think tying an achievement to ME1 is feasible.

Hmmm. They seem too easy to me. I'll have them all in a week.. I wish they required multiple playthroughs like me1. I think the time increase keeps the game fresher for longer. Oh well.... The game will still be awesome.

Very nice that they made the MP achievements optional. This series has been one of the few I have ever been bothered about getting the full gamerscore for so I appreciate not having to fiddle with MP achievements.

I wasn't stating I was one of them.  I do agree on getting other awards from achievements, maybe having game saves.  I don't agree with the infinite thermal cool down from ME 1 though.

A plasma cutter for DS players would be nifty, lol.

PS3 has a lot of "obtain all other trophies" trophy for games that Xbox does not have a corrisponding achievement for.

I also agree with an import a character through the whole trilogy achievement.

I don't believe that any game, regardless of how tightly-woven into a series it is, should rely entirely on any other game for any achievement or trophy.

Do any of the achievements seem to do that? I skimmed over the list because I don't want to see the achievements in detail.

Nope. I was moreover responding to the several posts from folks who wanted an achievement for having a file that carried over across the whole trilogy.
