The truth is, the fanbase is downright spoiled with ME2 and its approach to the dirty dozen system, now everybody expects the continuation of that flawed concept in everything Bioware does. Hence the support threads, LI requests, everything... and nobody cares about the impact their so-sought-after prioritization of characters can do to the story :/

ME2 virtually had no narrative. Get team, kill collectors. So equal screentime for the team members was woven through without a problem. With ME3, the devs are trying to tell a story. The LAST story, not just some side-mission. It's the end of the trilogy, end of Shepard, end of the Reaper war - and you want to limit Bioware's possible interpretation of all this by saying they 'should' focus on equal screentime for all characters...?

That would ruin the game. Have no doubts about that. ME2 wasn't tradition, it was an exception. The story allowed it. Here, let Bioware use and prioritize characters as according to their importance to the plot. They promised to resolve every arc, that's what they'll do. But please don't ask for the impossible...

Hey, I just realized that there are 16 squadmates in ME1 and ME2 (not counting Morinth), and there are 16 chess pieces a side. Interesting.

Coincidence? I think not.

Liara is the side star of the show. I'm happy enough with this.

I'm sure Miranda will get plenty of screen time, given the connection with Cerberus and ME2 role, so I wouldn't worry. :)

Same could be said for loads of other characters, squad and non squad members. My favourite character was Delanynder the hanar in ME1, and did he get more screen time (or any hanar for that matter)?

Miranda's hardly one to worry about.

I personally like it better when the characters are written around the story and not the other way around.

People to seem to have the belief that squadmates equal importance. This is not true.

Hackett, Anderson, and TIM have never been squadmembers and they are some of the most important people in the series (well, Anderson is a temporary one. But the point still stands) Yes, it is nice to have your favorite characters fighting beside you. But they can still have huge impacts on the story without hanging out with Shepard every waking minute.

I totally feel you OP. I dont know about the whole equality thing, but as a fellow Miranda fan Im right there with you. Its a shame how negative everyone is getting these days about this topic. After two excellent games and tons of hours invested, plus everything I have seen of ME3 so far, I have no doubt that the game will be as strong as the hype and be remarkable achievement that most of us will all love. The only thing I am unsure of is that my Miranda attachment will be satisfied. Its a fair worry, but Im not letting it get me down. All the goos I've seen else where is inspiring me to remain optimistic and hope for the best. I refuse to believe that Bioware put Miranda on as low of a priority as the pessimists and haters would like us to think. She isn't a squadie, she isn't a major player, but I dont think that means she will be "barely in the game" or lack impact.

Some of them just have a more significant role than others in the overall story - like Mordin being involved with the Genophage. Something like that would be more important than Samara randomly showing up, and I thought Samara was an interesting character. *shrug* I like most of the characters, but I realize that because of the story some of them are going to have diminished roles or just not make the cut at all.

I'd like to see featurettes on some of the other characters and especialy squadmates but the tricky part is doing that without revealing anything to spoilerific.

For the love of god, do you even TRY to account for BioWare not having infinite ressources to invest into the game? Frankly, that would be the only way to have all the ****in' characters they put in for some reason into ME2 have an equally sized effect on ME3.

realism > obsessive fanboyism... period.

You haven't seen the whole ship yet.  Less glaringly bright light isn't going to hurt anyone.

So long as it's not so damn dark you can't see a thing, ISN'T THAT RIGHT, ME1?

We have a war room and a lounge as well. Best ship in the trilogy, if you ask me.

If the ship doesn't have a bar I'll be very dissapointed.

It sounds like almost every former squaddie will be a temp party member or extra-party NPC for a misson.

Which is the only right way to do it.

It's patently obvious that some characters (e.g. Liara, Mordin) are far more important to the plot than others (e.g. Jacob, Samara). Characters exist to serve the plot, not the other way around.

The only logical way to handle Mass Effect 3 is to make the squad full of infinite Jacobs. Until we reach the Taylor singularity and destroy the Reapers.

Casey Hudson said that NO ONE is permanent, because it's a "War" Story. That would mean characters like the VS and Liara shouldn't be on the Normandy for the entire game. That would mean he's lying if they stay.

That hasn't been said in months though, things do change. They could've  had a plan like that, but then realized they needed people to be permanent.

Miranda is not important in this war. If anything, she most likely is a traitor and the enemy in ME3. She is a Cerberus b*tch after all and Cerberus is the enemy in ME3.

So, yeah, OP, your LI is probably going to be an enemy in ME3. I hope you look forward to put a bullet between her eyes. Yes, love hurts, I'd say:

Permanency isn't really a... Viable description to teammate presense in ME3. Seriously. Stop thinking with ME2. It's different this time around :)

There a reason why they are not in and I'm glad. It just like my LI and Favorites weren't in Mass Effect 2. If you hate the current characters screw you. I'm glad Liara back, these characters are big importance than those crappy characters some of them. I wuv Liara, yes I'm a Liaramancer.

Only Liara is going to stay on the Normandy perminantly for the entire game. Liara is also the only character in ME3 with plot armor

Face it, Liara is just more important than the entire ME2 cast. The entire ME2 cast is expendable. Liara isn't.

It's okay if our favorite characters have small parts.

Very reasonable.... if it wasn't the LAST ****ING GAME in the series. How many times does this need to be said?Really.
