As you can see, it's clearly been recoloured from that original screenshot from months and months ago.

Indeed.

Unfortunately she still prances around with her hair out, her ****** have been enlarged and she's in an unprofessional latex suit on the grounds of I quote, "We wanted her to be more sexy".

What's amusing is Bioware's mindset when designing Ash in ME1 was along the lines of "We wanted Ash to look normal ... like a woman you'd meet at work"

Wow, the transition is really sad.

I remember watching a video about character design, and the gentleman in the video mentioned how they had trouble designing female turians, or something? It bothered me, because I assumed they had trouble making them look "attractive," as if that's necessary, IDK. I believe he said something about "lipstick." Yeah. It bothers me. *shrugs*

It's not fair to oversexualize a character, male or female.

Please feminists and self-righteous fashion designers, continue with the complaints and ranting! I think its working!

Nah, this is just sounding like a few people are exaggerating to the point where it just looks silly. Judge the character when the game is released. For all you know she is still the tough as nails character that you complainers still love.

His ME 3 gear did look pretty good.  Better than running around in light armor anyway.

Having an ass > Having no ass

I think you guys are just a little too paranoid about Ash getting the Miranda treatment with ass cam shots.

Absolutely right. Ashley is merely serving the singular purpose of her gender: that of sexually arousing men, regardless of how unbelievably tasteless and uncessesary such an addition to her outfit might be.

God, you bunch of weirdo complainers! Get over yourselves, and all that.

According to the artbook, she "needed sex appeal."

Considering another certain character "needed to be sexy" (and this is even less logical than Ash's design), I'm not surprised.

I've heard this, I get it, but there's lots of stuff where women are "sexy" that doesn't make my blood boil. Again, sexy is not a synonym for tasteless and objectifying.

Preaching to the choir, miss.

I've no problem with characters designed specifically to be sexually appealing (e.g. Lawson...except when she actually wore that ridiculous suit into combat). In Miranda's case, it made sense, considering her history of genetic tailoring. What did not make sense was that the theme of her and Shepard's relationship is that she is more than just her enhancements, yet, meanwhile, the game takes every opportunity to execute precision arse strikes mid-conversation. That was one of the biggest disservices to her character.

Now Ash is something else altogether. I don't care about making characters sexier (though I find it difficult to believe a marine of Ashley's calibre and attitude is thinking about being minx in the middle of galactic war), but when the primary drive behind a design is "needs to be sexy" and not "needs to convey this character," the design process is failing.

...Especially if the design turns out being as donkeyballs hideous as Ash's is.

Just saiyan.

Like I said in my post most don't even notice since they are more wrapped up in the game and the scene is pretty brief to begin with. OP if this bugs you then I hate to see your responses to most games out there.

Honestly? I expect more from Bioware, especially since DA is so much more progressive. Other games generally get an eyeroll and a "moving on..." from me.

I thought it was a progressive attempt to make a medievil dating sim, mixed into a hash attempt at starting a new kind of Baldur's Gate.

Just to be safe though they sexed up EDI too, because, too quote the artbook directly "EDI's body needed to be sexy".

He does and it is. I always glitched ME1 so he'd have medium armour.

I'm debating nuking her in ME1 and romancing up Jack in ME2.

That's what I had planned to spare Ashley the shame of her ME3 outfit.

What I'm not understanding is you already had the sexy human romance option in Miranda, you had the sexy cute 'dem hips' romance option in Tali, you had the sexy alien romance in Liara (whose entire race spend a hundred years as strippers as part of their growing up period).

Ashely was the no-nonsense, straight down the line, woman who can kick your arse romance option - why would you decide to make that character sexy for ME3. I just can't get my head around why and at what point they decided "So Ash eh? We need more sexy." It just doesn't make any sense to me. YOU HAVE ENOUGH SEXY ALREADY!

For new ME3 players, they needed a sexed up squad mate.  Liara's outfit isn't revealing, so Ash ended up getting the role of 'sexed up' in this game.

There is already at least one new squad mate that is designed from the ground up to be sexy.

There is also at least one more character around who will bring sexy.

Romances are unknown - but I believe at least one of them has romance options.

Don't forget that the DA community here isolates DA 2, and think their perfect world of Baldur's Gate: Origins is lightyears ahead of a lot of things.

Still got Tali and Liara for non-sexed up characters. Thankfully.

Garrus, you mean.

I'll give them more credit for being more subtle with Tali, but I suspect that's because a lot of people don't recognize how you can sexualize someone without revealing clothes.

The 'let's emphasize her boobs' ring-belts that act as the push-up bra, combined with the 'let's use the scarf to make clevage' imagery still make me laugh every time, though.

I really like the way you put this and I can't help but shake my head in agreement.

Mass effect is a great series but they're kind of ruining it for me with all of this pointless flash and cliches. Women should not go into battle with high heel boots and excessive cleavage showing.

And I lol'd at "butt windows".

I saw that picture. I think I'm going to puke.

It's not that it's sexist or objectifying or any other dramatic word you want to use.

It is the simple fact that no self respecting woman dresses like that. Especially if she happens to be a soldier. Miranda's outfit can be summed up in two words. ******, ass. Seriously why?

I understand the desire to make women sexy. But ****ty costumes are more off putting than sexy. I have trouble engaging with a person who shoves their assets in my face and doesn't even see it as an issue.

Well at least she won't be wearing that in combat. You know what, if her battle outfit is appropriate I won't be bothered too much.

This for me isn't an issue of sexism. This is an issue of immersion. If I can't see someone dressing like that in the given setting being plausible, then I have a issue with it being presented within the context. However, if Ashley and Miranda are strippers, then they are more than appropriately dressed. Besides strippers in power armour are not a good combination trust me.

The thing about Isabel's outfit is that it suited her character.

The whole catsuit thing doesn't really go with Ashley. Especially after she mocks stuff like that in Mass Effect. But whatever, she has armor now. So I don't have to look at it.

Also, newer photos have shown that they removed those godawful white pants on Ash's outfit.

I'm quite sure that her outfit has been recolored, you're like seven months late, buddy.

it has, as x3dsix said on the first page (clearly got lost within everyone else complaining). Just to clarify:

Image IPB

Obviously it's not the best screenshot, but that is her casual outfit from when you run into her on Earth, as shown in the James Vega Featurette. As you can see, it's clearly been recoloured from that original screenshot from months and months ago.

Fine, that's an improvement, but the complaint about the overall treatment of women in the franchise still stands. The aforementioned "professional female npc in bathing suit top" is new, anyway.

BW will take back all the female objectifying in the ME 'verse, when you ladies stop hanging all over jersey shoreesque douche bags.

If you must have primped men, then we must have tasteless asshots.

I never used Ashley, except on Pinnacle Station.  Honestly, never liked her, or Kaiden.  Infact I think the reason why she's alive in my game is because of a coin toss.

This and to OP I give you Morrigan's attire! That not enough for you what about the Desire Demon's? Still not enough for you how about Hawke's sister?  I think my point stands. OP is starting to sound ridiculous and just being over the top with something that isn't even released yet. You can change Ashley's outfit if you don't like the current one which looks just fine to me with the recoloring. This is almost as bad as Chobot's reporter character not being in uniform when she isn't on duty.
