The 'let's emphasize her boobs' ring-belts that act as the push-up bra, combined with the 'let's use the scarf to make clevage' imagery still make me laugh every time, though.

At certain angles the cloth on her hips gives the impression of a short skirt.

Or so I've heard, anyway...

Varric showed off his chest too though, so it was equal between the genders.

I'm not talking so much about the chest as the:

"has no pants, needs no pants" and the:

"Hawke, i think I'm falling for you." Two days later, talking to Zevran. "Hey, I remember you. Let's f*ck! Hawke, wanna join? No? oh well, we'll have fun without you."

Ashley has an ass? God forbid! You guys are really complaining about this? You guys are pathetic.
Having an ass > Having no ass

I think you guys are just a little too paranoid about Ash getting the Miranda treatment with ass cam shots.

Absolutely right. Ashley is merely serving the singular purpose of her gender: that of sexually arousing men, regardless of how unbelievably tasteless and uncessesary such an addition to her outfit might be.

God, you bunch of weirdo complainers! Get over yourselves, and all that.

What exactly is so tasteless about it? It's just a form-fitting outfit. Armors in ME1 had it also.
This is nothing worth concerning over.

Don't make me go take screenshots.  Ah hell, I'll do it anyway.

When I look at the difference between Bioware's two major original IPs with regard to respect for female (and homosexual) characters it just blows me away. Dragon Age is not perfect in this respect but it's lightyears ahead of Mass Effect.

*ahem*

I'd like to introduce you to Isabel.

Mass Effect is light years ahead of DA.

In case of Isabel it worked with her personality though.

One of the appealing aspects of Ashley was that she wasn't a glamor girl. So to speak, but more an actual soldier.

Isabel, for the most part, had a suiting personality with her.. looks.

...So is white-butt the old model or is mecha-joints the old model? I remember the mecha-joints armor from months and months ago.

The white-butt one is... pretty bad, yeah.

And I just heard the sound of the point of this thread flying right past you.

Here's some help. Go back and read the OP!

That's just how her character was.  You can't expect every woman to be prude and tasteful.

Aren't you also planning to kill half the squad on the SM for similar reasons?

Just Mordin and maybe Garrus. Though in the process Zaeed and Kasumi will probably bite it too. Legion wouldn't be recruited and even Grunt might be left in the tank. Not 100% on that.

Yes, but that is DA2. DA =/////////////= DA2.

Well, DAII is the latest installment in the Dragon Age series. That really can't be discounted.

Well it is like that Batman and Robin with their nipple suits. It has to be ignored for the greater good of the series.

She really was a refreshing character. Shame about the design.

Still got Tali and Liara for non-sexed up characters. Thankfully.

Garrus, you mean.

I'll give them more credit for being more subtle with Tali, but I suspect that's because a lot of people don't recognize how you can sexualize someone without revealing clothes.

The 'let's emphasize her boobs' ring-belts that act as the push-up bra, combined with the 'let's use the scarf to make clevage' imagery still make me laugh every time, though.

Yep.

Yeah, revised outfit is much better. Also, armor on missions.

Something interesting that bugs me though, They spent all this time on Ash's 'casual' outfit. It has weapon slots. I think BioWare originally intended for her to have that as her armor, then saw the backlash and quickly threw in the retexed Femshep armor.

I also suspected as much, but it's not like they'd ever tell us.

Or Morrigan.

Who somehow shows less clevage if you take away her robe and leave her in her underwear.

See my comment on this page at the top. Wasn't so much talking about cleavage as attitude with it.

What?  No way!  The desire demon is the most tasteful  and dignified character ever!

The difference is Isabella and the desire demon are created from points of design with a goal in mind.

Isabella was a woman that used her sexuality to help get her places - she was from the ground up a strong sexually liberated woman.

The desire demon uses sexuality to trap mostly men, once again a character design that has logical reasoning behind it.

Ash got a boob job because BioWare needed more sexy. Thats not a character development reason or even a story reason.

Kaidan is going to get armor that features a an arrow design that points directly towards his crotch and...uhh, opposite end.

Oh I hope not. You know what also put me off. Batniples on the Bat costume. Ugh. It was distracting when I saw George Clooney but Christian Bale too?

So Christian Bale not only had bat niples, boobs (sorry I mean pecks) sticking out, he had that really low pitched voice that made him sound really amusing.

So it turns out that Kaidan's crotch features are present in his armour. What? I hope not. Are they going to make him put on a low pitched voice too?

You see it's not just Ashley being objectified by daft costume design, Kaidan's getting it too. Someone needs to do something about the Mass Effect costume designer.

I think Mass Effect needs a counterpart to the Asari.

The Manari.

A race of muscular, toned Mediterranean-tanned not-at-all-male hunks. They should be chivalrous and gallant and rougishly dashing, living many times longer than other species while always doing the masculine better thing.

Manari would be remarkable for their unique ability to mate with anyone of any race or gender, able to impregnate their partner without even having to touch the other person at all.

So in your mind, not having sex with random people from your past--while in a relationship--is being "prude?" Different strokes for different folks, I guess...

Still, Merrill and Aveline had pretty tasteful outfits. That actually covered more and provided better protection than what any of the males had.

Wow, the transition is really sad.

I wish i could find the picture.

I remember watching a video about character design, and the gentleman in the video mentioned how they had trouble designing female turians, or something? It bothered me, because I assumed they had trouble making them look "attractive," as if that's necessary, IDK. I believe he said something about "lipstick." Yeah. It bothers me. *shrugs*

That interview hurt my soul.

They can create so many unique and brilliant designs but when it comes to a female alien it's "idunnolipsticklol?"

There's also vaginal imagery from the front.

You know, in case you forgot she was female. Or a love interest.
