A platoon consists of more than 30 lives. Why not ask would you kill 30 innocent people in order to save your LI. That gives a little more honesty to the question, not that I believe you to be dishonest, just non-specific.
 
Essentially, the question hearkens back to Vrmire and the choice posed there. Had I assigned Ashley to arming the nuke, she was my ME LI, then I would have sacrificed her in order to save Kaiden and the Salarian STG survivors. If I could have sacrificed myself to save them all I would have, but that option was never given to me.
 
Nobody on the battlefield is irreplaceable. If they are so important that they cannot be lost, then they should not be there in the first place. I don't care about rank, the personal ties, or who owes you money, everybody is equal in a firefight. When it comes down to who to save and who to sacrifice, the mission comes first. Always. If it doesn't, then what the hell are we fighting for? If a task is important enough to spill blood for, then its important enough to achieve.
 
Saving a platoon of soldiers keeps you from writing 30+ letters of death notifications to their next of kin explaining to their loved ones why you had to sacrifice them in order to feather your own nest or lie your ass off to do so. Some folks may be able to live with themselves after pulling such a stunt, I couldn't.
 
And if your subordinates ever found out you did that, then look to be brought up on charges or fragged because the next time they enter battle with you, it could be them you toss under the bus.

It's not worth it to get laid with someone who is unable to protect him/herself from a platoon of soldiers!!

Okay why not get laid and fight soldiers at the same time and then kill your LI afterwards.

It really depends on the situation. In most cases, the platoon will always be saved, but if the LI happens to be of more importance than the platoon, this will be the only case where they have the possibility of being saved over a platoon. Like if the LI is the only person who can do X so that Y can be saved, and Y has a larger casualty than the platoon, I'm gonna have to save the LI so that Y can be saved. Romantic connections, or even just plain friendship, should have no effect on decisions like that. Which can suck, but that's how I always figured Shepard should be.

Highly depends on the situation. If that said platoon is the tip of a spear and holds the key how to defeat the Reapers 5 months earlier than without them (or at all), then I'd sacrifice Ashley.

On the other hand: she's the very reason why Shepard is still able to fight, therefore I'm not sure if he takes her sacrifice well. -.-

I would probably save Ash knowing she would probably hate me for it and might not ever speak to me again. Still, i can't stand the idea of her being dead. Even if she's not with me.

Of course you could always say you were saving your LI to help you go save the platoon...

If you want to look at it practically, my love interest has killed WAY more than 40 guys, so it's just the better choice for the galaxy to save them. I also enjoy the "If it was real life I would have to save my love interest comment." If it was real life for me, I wouldn't save either of them, because I'm a-scared of everything.

Tough decision, but probably the LI. Taking into consideration that your squadmates have killed far more enemies than a regular platoon of soldiers, the platoon would probably want you to save the LI instead.

Love interest or a bunch of nameless faceless mooks I'll never see again? I'd even save Jacob over a platoon of nobody troops. Especially when you consider any squadmate is worth at least a platoon in any combat situation.
