I've got the feeling that my Shepard's lover wouldn't forgive him for that... He'd pick the platoon, then after the war sign up for more suicide missions.

Indeed, Sir. My Shepard's LI didn't take it well I rescued her sorry ass instead the one of a good friend and higher ranking officer. She'll see my Shepard as monster if he does it again - sacrificing a platoon for her.

*sigh*

If I save her she'll just have to suck it up.

I hope this situation doesn't happen in ME3. I don't know if I could let Garrus die with my favorite Shepard. She's a Paragade and it wouldn't be completely out of character for her to allow a platoon of soldiers die for the sake of her LI. Garrus would be upset, but I think he'd forgive Shepard knowing how much she cares for him.

Besides, if I let Garrus die I'd be kicking myself for the rest of the game. I just couldn't do it.

I save the one which has by far the most game content, what else?

Hint: not the virmire salarians. I don't remember getting any special acknowledgement for leaving them to die.

If it was my real life boyfriend, I'd explode the Earth with the Death Star to save him, so my Shepard would do the same for Kaidan.

If I were Shepard having the fate of humankind resting on my shoulders I'd save my LI; I see no way how I could keep going with such a terrible loss; reaper invasion, facing imminent extiction, and now losing one of the few things that keeps me from falling apart?

In the end there is only one question: Is Shepard more important than an entire platoon? Yes, he/she is. The platoon would be a sacrifice for the gerater good.

And besides being a LI everyone in Sheps squad is a very valuable specialist in the war against the reapers, more valuable than 50 grunts

All love affairs ends one way or another. So no need to spend many lives for one person.

On opposite if my love interest would come to save me in cost of several soldiers' lives, I'd kill him myself for his lack of sense of duty and stupidity.

After much thought I've decided that if my Shepard lost his LI he would develop severe suicidal tendencies which would jeopardize the galaxy so it's in everyone's best interest if his LI survives.

Case closed.

No, Shepard is expandable. He/she can just go to Omega and have a drink, the galaxy will take care of the reapers without Shepard.

Welp, my Shepard is with Miranda, so I'd choose to save Miranda. In battle, she's easily worth the platoon of soldiers on her own. With Shepard, the 2 of them are unstoppable. Squadmate #3 is there just to make them look better.

Save the platoon and then counterattack with said platoon to save the significant other.

Given that I've played through ME1 and sacrificed love interests on Virmire, I'd probably opt to try and save the most people.

Plenty of fish in the sea as they say.

I'd save the platoon, as I've always had a soft spot for the faceless soldiers who nobody remembers apart from me.

I'm fairly certain Tali wouldn't mind that...

It'd be a bit selfish to sacrifice the lives of multiple people and subject those that love them to emotional anguish just to avoid it yourself. Besides, I highly doubt Shepard would be rendered unfit for duty just because his/her LI died. If anything it'd probably just make them more determined.
