Most Renegade interrupts are tactical, not retaliatory to offense.
Honestly, i think it's best illustrated with the Krogan headbutt. Using violence in that instance actually made a lot of sense because it was a culture. thing.
Most Renegade interrupts make sense in the 'you're about to fight these people anyway, might as well get the first shot' sort of thing. Killing Sgt. Kathka before he fixes the assault ship was an excellent case.
In fact, that one could have been even better as a superficial choice of sorts. Imagine if Garrus only got scarred if you
didn't sabotage the gunship? And if you did, his face was fine?
Since the conversation about the face only comes up once, meaning only one reworded dialogue sequence, you could have had a game-long 'consequence' from a minor choice.
