It's been tough. It's been REALLY tough, I know. We all know that she deserves a fist to the face in both of her interviews, the second one even more so. But the fact of the matter is, the questions that she asks need to be answered and justified, on either a paragon or renegade level. It's for the good of the Alliance viewing public.

But if BioWare has any heart it will let Ms. al-Jilani show up for one more interview in Mass Effect 3. And when she does, she's going to be on the receiving end of a punch that was three years in the making.

The best part though will be Shepard's one-liner after she goes down, though. I imagine it would be:

"You have NO IDEA how long I've wanted to do that! How does that floor taste?"

And then Kalisah will call me a son-of-a-**** and threaten to show the whole Alliance that footage. And I'll laugh at her.

For discussion: if your canon Shepard hasn't punched Kalisah yet, will you do so in 3? And if you do, what do you imagine Shepard will say after the punch?

I haven't punched her with my main Shepard. My main Shepard is a jerk, but not so much that he's willing to punch unarmed and untrained women.

I tried to answer her questions honestly in ME1 and in ME2 I simply yelled angry at her (renegade response).

I don't know what I will do in ME3. We'll see.

Hopefully this time we'll get to pistol whip her!

I personally found paragon bullrushing her in ME2 a LOT more satisfying. Buuut.. if ME3 gives me an opportunity to both bullrush AND punch her, I'll take it.

Lol at the "I can't punch a woman" comments. You're aware that Shepard frequently kills women? Some of which may be by a melee attack?

Most of which are carrying rocket launchers.

And all of which are forced, and trying to kill you.

I haven't punched her, and likely won't. She's annoying, but I'd rather prove her wrong by explaining it to her. I think the paragon way of solving it in ME2 is way more satisfying where you practically explain to her what a moron she is with words. I find that much more satisfying and impressive than mindless punch to the face.

My Shep 1 is noble and out-talks her, Shep 2 hasn't hit her yet..but is getting angry at her, Shep 3 hasn't done it yet..but might, Shep 4 is too much of a ladies man (and would rather have the option to kiss her), Shep 5 considers her a favourite punching bag

My female Renegade Sheps punch her. My male Renegade Sheps don't. My dudes don't punch defenseless reporters, no matter how Renegade they are.

Instigating a fight with (or in this case, assaulting) someone who is physically weaker than you are is stupid.

Shepard's stronger than pretty much any human.

By that logic Shepard should give up being a soldier.

Meh, I'm content with making al-Jilani out the fool that she is.

She's just doing her job. I don't want journalists to feel obliged to just lob softball questions if they're to avoid a beating.

Punching her is hilarious, but I find little justification for it on a "serious" playthrough.

The dialogue just doesn't match very well with the punch

Being a soldier often requires him to fight in self-defense or the defense of others.
Punching a reporter for being a bit of an ass is just stupid and shows you can't win a verbal fight and have to resort to dumber means. Just because Shepard could beat the living **** out of everyone doesn't mean he should. We're not playing a Krogan.

Punching a news reporter has no real justification in this regard. She is asking you questions, fair and square. If you can't defeat her through reasonable arguments you should look bad.

The whole point of Al-Jilani is that you are meant to hate her, it's how you handle her that matter's, it was obvious from the start that punching her was the easy way out.

In ME2? Sure. In ME1? I couldn't disagree more.

In ME1, Al-Jilani is a reporter who asks troublesome questions. Nothing more, nothing less: she puts her fingers to a very inconvenient, but every relevant, question as to what sort of Spectre Commander Shepard is: are you loyal first to the Alliance, or the Council?

It's very much a question that could trip you up, but it's neither an illegitimate question or one that's unfair for a reporter to ask. Reporters are, after all, supposed to deliver a story. The first Human spectre embarassing themselves is as good a story as one who is articulate.

One of those constant annoyances of role-shifting that vexes me is Al-Jilani's forced hostility in ME2. Considering that I finish every ME1 interview on good terms with Ms. Al-Jilani, who according to Hackett is now on my side, the reduction to 'hack' is squandered potential.

Not only would she have been an excellent source of validation for a Renegade player's galaxy (praise/sympathetic interview for a Renegade Council Shepard), but she could have been an excellent source for challenging the effects of the Paragon Council's survival on the colony issue (the Council Shepard saves refuses to give any assistance, yet Shepard weakened the Alliance so much it can't help the Terminus colonies while it rebuilds).

She could very easily have been confrontational without being a hack, or a much-lacking source of verbal validation for Renegade Councils.

Clearly the job of anyone in the Mass Effect universe is to praise Commander Shepard and bend to his/her will in all matters.

Only reason it is ever ok to punch her is because it is a game. And even that's a pretty weak reason tbh. I only did it once accidently (didn't think it could happen). Anyway, any Shep's punching her at any point are clearly no hero at all.

So punching a reporter invalidates saving Elysium? Or the Citadel? Or stopping the Collectors?

That's... pretty stupid, actually.

It was most likely not planned from the beggining, but punching her became an inside joke (demostrated by the Shadow Broker videos, because it seems everyone ends up assaulting her).

I'm not sure if I should fault Bioware for making the reporter into a joke, or roll my eyes at the BSN for not being able to take a joke.
