Wrong.
Ashley, Kaidan, Liara, Legion, Miranda, Mordin, Tali, Wrex.
And these are squad mates only not NsPCs. And not important to me, but the ME universe.
Ok, person who doesn't follow directions.
I would say for me:
- Jack - Just a facinating video game character, to me. Would like to see how she progresses if an LI
- Ashley - My main "Shep" love interest. Hope they tie that relationship bow well
- Tali - Simply because of the Quarian fleet and the Geth. I think there are some major things that need resolved there.

most important...
well, if i went to battle i would pick:
Grunt, Wrex, Thane, Garrus, Samara, Jack.
non-combat invaluable people:
and Mordin, Liara, Tali, Kasumi, are always invaluable to have.
but my favorite ones, regardless of usefulness:
Tali, Garrus, Thane, Wrex, Kasumi, Mordin.
if i had to pick 3, tali, mordin, and one of thane/garrus.
the ones i would preffer if they died:
ashley, grunt, miranda, legion

Kaidan/Ashley, Miranda, and Liara. I have other characters I like, but I'm realistic about their chances of survival. I'd really prefer if the three I listed make it out alive.

1- Jack- She's super awesome and a really great character. I am hoping she's on the squad still BTW. My Shep's LI.
2- Garrus- He seems to have grown to be Shepard's really good friend, so I'd hate to see him die.
3- Tied between Legion and Grunt. Both great characters with suprisingly funny dialog dispite their intimidating apperances.
Also why I don't particularly think he is super important or anything, if Joker bit the dust I'd be annoyed.

It actually changes, depending on which Shep I'm playing. They have different LIs and friends. My one-and-only renegade would have Garrus, Miranda, and Jack at the top of the pile, while my one-and-only paragon would choose Tali, Joker, Garrus/Samara.
But over all I'd probably have to say Joker, Jack and Legion.

Garrus: My Sheps bro for life....the Dark Knight...
Kasumi: Still holding out for love....
Thane: Brilliant battle side kick....
Legion would be on that list, but can he actually die?...Wouldn't all the Geth have to be wiped out for Legion to technically die?

Most important characters from the squaddies till now. They could be: Liara, Miranda, Legion, Mordin, Jack, Kasumi, Wrex and Tali (if she isn't exiled).
And the no important character are: Ashley. Kaidan, Garrus, Grunt, Jacob, Thane, Samara, Zaeed and Tali (exiled),

For me it's Jack, Wrex, and Kaidan... which is also my top-3 favorites in that order.
--> Jack: flat-out best written character of the series, IMO, so seeing where her story goes for the grand finale is definitely most important to me. I happen to already know, and am very much satisfied. Still, very excited to see it come to life.
--> Wrex: they truly have an awesome concept going here. The strongest warrior and a visionary among a disgraced warrior race who returns to his people after a storied mercenary career to help restore them to glory. How this character-arc turns out will be really interesting.
--> Kaidan: IMO, no character does more with less than this guy, as a character. He's not a spiritual alien assassin, but he killed a bad person who deserved it, and later felt remorse over it upon reflection. He's not a battle-hardened war veteran, but sticking it out through the military with a gritty biotic implant and still leading a successful career as a military XO is pretty impressive... and I could go on. Now he's moved up the ranks to Major and has become a Spectre to boot, so seeing how this dude who starts as just a regular guy becomes a big-shot in ME3 makes for interesting story material. Here's hoping they deliver on that count.

Care about their fate? Here I was going to list the most important to the story. xD
In no particular order:
Kasumi : One of the more stable of your crew; I can only hope she has a satisfying ending which doesn't end in tragedy.
Wrex: Krogan~!
Mordin

Well Wrex is obviously at the very top of my list my actions speak loud then words here.
The first time I got Wrex Killed on Virmire I was on my 4th play though and I was like hm I haven't ever done 'Signal Ash" and Bam Wrex was shot dead, I was like WTF? Ash just Killed Wrex, and I told her to? WTF Wrex is now dead like Kaiden is gonna be I have to reload the game.
So considering I've never completed a game with a dead Wrex he's number one
1.Wrex
and the last 2 spots damn you it's hard if you'd have only given me 5 or 6.
2.Jack, (her wall of **** and self destructive behavior remind me of myself when I was in high school)
3.Liara and Samara tie
Kelly Chambers, Garrus, Mordin, and lastly Jacob T. come in next.
Also I REALLY Want to KILL UDINA myself in ME3, I'm sure everyone else hate him too

Garrus, Kaidan, Tali/Wrex (tied)
Garrus is the only one I'd actually be upset about losing. I'd still be bothered about the others, but not to the point of turning off the game and going WTF.

Kaidan, Liara and Samara.
Especially Samara in fact. I love her character. Although part of me wants her to die in ME3 in a beautiful tragic way so her story is complete...

Most important characters in ME series? Highly depends on PoV.
Story-wise:
Liara. As being responsible for decoding Shepard's visions with the cypher in ME1, the one who hands Shepard's corpse over to Cerberus and becoming the SB in ME2 plus her role in ME3, makes her to the most important character for the story.
Like it or not, Liara is the second most important character in the series, although the writers had to twist her kind character to a cold, calculating person that even willingly sacrifices friends for own goals.
Another important role is filled by Anderson. He gets the story rolling in early ME1 and acts as mentor of Shepard. Also his role seems to be really big in ME3, making him to one of the most important characters.
Wrex & Mordin have their own stories that's intertwined by the cure's plot. Their actions (supported / guided by Shepard) might end the feud between Salarians and Krogans. Since both races are considered as major powers in the Galaxy, it's kinda important they work together. And therefore both characters have a lot of influence.
Tali & Legion Same here. Without Tali, Shepard wouldn't have the evidence that proves the connection between Saren, the Geth and the assault on Eden Prime. So basically, Tali gets the story running in ME1. Her role in ME2 is less prominent, but I'm sure she and Legion will make a difference in ME3. Making peace between Geth and Quarians nets Shepard the support of two of the largest fleets in the galaxy - an opportunity s/he shouldn't miss.
Shepard's own PoV
His LI - in my case it's Ashley. She doesn't seem to have the greatest impact on the main story, but she's the very reason why Shepard (and that's headcanon) is fighting at all. That's not that true in ME1 but becomes slightly visible in ME2 (gazing at her picture before going through the O4 Relay) and can become quite visible in ME3.
Anderson - again. He's not just a mentor but also a father figure to my Shepard. He also introduced Shepard to N7, so he's the very reason why Shepard became the person s/he is today.

You guys are all short-sighted fools. Most important person is Udina, DUH.
Start of ME1, when Anderson, Udina and Hackett were talking about you:
Udina: "I'll make the call."
If he said no there and then ME1 2 and 3 can be completed in 5 seconds.
