IMO there is only one choice and already has been mentioned:
Imperial March

Thanks for the advice, buddy, but I'm free to make observations about bad things happening without having to kick myself off the boards.
You are, by all means. That doesn't however, in all fairness, have to entail you share your observations when they aren't really contributing to the topic. No hard feelings, just pointing out my own observations.
Now I think I have done enough to derail the topic and shall lay it to rest here, the both of us made out statements heard, it shall make due.

But the vietnam war wasn't exactly sci-fi either. I just find it a bit weird having guitars for a game set over a hundred years in the future.Phaedon wrote...
Actually, various rock songs have been considered as sort of the "unofficial theme songs" of wars. Paint it Black I believe was considered as such, for the Vietnam war.The PLC wrote...
I don't understand how rock music could possibly fit a game like Mass Effect in any way. But that's okay. I respect your opinions. That's how nice I am. Sorry for off topic. So sorry.
I wasn't implying that you guys were wrong for linking these songs to the ME universe.. Let's not start a fight here. I'll leave now.

You know I can almost picture Joker piping that song thru shipwide systems going into a fight while grinning.

www.youtube.com/watchI was playing ME1 with my stereo going and it went from the end of a great, dark song on my harddrive to this when Sovereign appeared at the Citadel. Laughed my ass off XD
I used classical music to enhance the experience, but now you are giving me ideas for ME3.
Edit: I vote for this www.youtube.com/watch it's JPOP YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED

Hah, I knew that one would show up! Fellow CnC fan, I take it? "For Mother Russia" is great too, but not as ambiet track, more like for the "crunching" parts!
Its an awesome song, but not fit for an epic Invasion scene.
Hence the "crunching part" limitation.
But I'll already be playing this track on MP when charging with my Vanguard in endless repeat.

It has to be dark, mysterious, futuristic and foreboding.
It has to reek of desperation, and hopeless resistance, whilst still holding a robotic, calculating pace.
It must be the most evil piece of music known to mankind.
Thus, with this in mind, I present you with the soul-chilling, inescapable horror of this!!!!
(You have been warned.)

Just look at this comment: In me it evokes the feel of massive relentless destruction and fear. Not malice though, just raw power progressing from something indescribable in shape, alien and supreme. Something past one's understanding.

I take back my previous post of Mars and a joke suggestion in favour of this. Great choice.
