So, i havent been playing the game for almost half a year, and a couple of days ago i decided to give it a chance again. I installed the latest patch and started a new game. The cinamatic with the dwarf being interrogated plays with no problem, but when i start fighting darkspawn it crashes to deskop. I`ve got the latest 12.2 drivers for my HD5850, and the game is patched up to 1.03. and any time i try to play the game, it runs normally for a minute or so, and then it freezes for about 5 seconds (because the game crashed my display driver) and then it quits to the desktop. I`ve tried using 12.1 and 11.12 drivers, no change, it still crashed. Also i have enough ram (8gb), so thats not the problem. BUT when I use dx9, it runs fine, only it looks like im playing it on my xbox.

I`m playing Arkham City (a waay more graphically intense game, which actually makes some use out of dx11) on max settings with tesselation set to medium at 60fps, so its not like my PC is retarded the opposite of new.

C`mon, Bioware, it seems that you `re as good at understing dx11 as a group dung beetles. not very good with Dx11.

Bioware isn't in here. This is a PEER forum. Refer to the sticky "Before anything" and do what it tells you.

Dude, im not stupid from the stone ages. For last two days i have been searching the internet for an answer with no results. I even got EA support on live-chat, and all they could suggest was delete the temp files durrr or re-install drivers herrp.

Go back, way back, to 11.6 or 11.7.

I believe it stopped working around 11.8, and it's been on the suck ever since.

No, ATI is not to blame. It still crashed with 11.7 and 11.6 drivers. This time it even showed a brownish-pink screen before crashed to desktop. I believe patch 1.03 is at fault here, because when 1.03 still wasn't released it ran fine with 1.02. Bioware, you not only made DA2 game-play worse, you made it also technically worse I dissaprove of your choice of gameplay, art and tech in DA2. Congrats. I hope DA3 will not be such a mess. be better.

Did you uninstall completely before installing the old drivers?

I know I played extensively on a 5870 with the 11.6 drivers (or around there) with patch 1.03 last summer, and it ran just fine (DX11, hi-res textures, everything at max). I don't recall a single crash in 100+ hours of gameplay.

(And as you note, with the latest drivers, it's basically unplayable on 5800-series boards unless you want to play with crap settings. But it didn't become a problem until a driver update that was pushed out long after the last DA2 patch.)

I did a clean uninstall of ATI drivers in order to install 11.7. I might have derped when installing 11.6. Gonna give 11.6 a chance tomorrow. Thanks for additional info.

You could also try trashing your DA2 user data folder (I don't think it stores anything relevant, but who knows).

All I know is that it did work fine, at one point, even with 1.03. EA and AMD seem unwilling or unable to really even care that it no longer does, however, given that this has gone on for half a year now.

FOR ****S INTERCORSE SAKE!!! Nothing you suggested bloody works. It still crashed with 11.6 drivers. I also deleted my old DA2 user data- no changes. I will re-install DA2 and I will also download my mods anew (checked the mod option also- no changes, still crashed). Cross fingers.

Bioware- **** you. I did a clean install, applied the 1.03 patch, had no DLC or mods installed, tried 7 drivers for my video card, used the frankly useless EA support, closed all the unnecessary programs before launching the game AND STILL YOUR PIECE OF **** GAME MANAGES TO CRASH MY VIDEO CARD DRIVER EVEN BEFORE I GET TO THE START SCREEN. Congratulations, this is the only game i have ever had which does **** like this. Not even half-assed russian games have ever been so ****ed up. This truly is a masterpiece.

Nothing worked, I am a sad panda.

You are like wisdom teeth- only useful for apes.

I know Bioware doesn't give a crap about DA2 tech problems, because the game itself is a goddamn problem. But that won`t stop me raging a bit because I lost 40 euros. I wish that Bioware would have spent extra six months developing DA2.

FYI, Bioware does sometimes show up here.

I have an 5850 as well, when I bought Rage I had to update to the newest driver at the time to get it running. When playing DA2 (1920*1080 dx11) I started having lockups followed by CTD, so I rolled back drivers.
The driver I'm using that doesn't have problem with DA2 DX11 is Catalyst 11.4
hope it helps

I have a 5870. Haven't played in a while, decided to tried Mark of the Assassin. I had constant crash..
In a place, I couldn't engage the Qunari, it just crashed repeatdly when I arrived there.

So far, I've played past that wihtout problem... Might be worth trying it:
1- disable vertical sync
2- Updated Nvidia PhysX software: http://www.nvidia.co...111-driver.html

So far, so good...

EDIT:
I manage to finish my game without any CTD.  So I guess one of these 2 worked.

Ditto on the v-sync. Now I am running the 295.73 driver and all is well. Did the CTD once, had to turn of anti aliasing in the game and, once again it's fine. AA makes minimal difference so, not a big deal. (also did do a clean install of the new drivers but then, I have done that for years. It used to be you had to with Nvidia or you always had major problems, now they say not but, old habits die hard.)

I had originally intended to post something waaay more insulting, but with time my rage faded.

I applied the latest (1.0.4) patch and the game still crashes. I am so deeply disappointed in Bioware, that I`m cancelling my pre-order of ME3, since the demo is so incredibly dumbed down, that even a cave man with downs syndrome would call it stupid and the support of their games is miserable.

Congrats.

I would at least try going back to 11.4, like one of the posters mentioned above.

It's entirely possible I was off by a couple months when remembering which version I successfully played with.

But yes, 1.0.4 still has the same crashes with the 12.1 drivers.
