Admittedly, playing a renegade is fun. My favorite Shepard is a renegade.  I love watching her blaze through the game, without a thought or consideration for some of her actions (while others, are carefully calculated, but that is another topic).

However, as much fun playing a renegade can be, some choices available seem very out of place, or too cold, and incredibly awkward.

My top five are:

1) Executing Shiala
2) Punching the reporter
3)Sleeping with Morinth
4) leaving Zaeed behind on his loyalty mission
5) electrocuting the Batarian on Garrus' recruitment mission

What are your top five?

I personally think that electrocuting the Batarian is the epitomy of the renegade actions. In one callous execution you instantly help your own cause.

I don't think any of those are out of places.

1) Shepard taking bribes, any bribes at all.
2) Calling out the Asari hostage taker as being a stripper (instead of intimidating her... which is what the paragon option is)

2. Sending crew on SM back without escort
3. Selling Legion to Cerberus
4. Punching reporter
5. Killing colonists on Feros

Its more fun to wound the hostage.

John Shepard: "Your forgetting something (forget name).... I WAS a  Spectre to!"
[Shots hostage]
Fun Times!

" Show me yours tough guy, i bet mines bigger ". Renegade points for dick jokes.. LOL
But seriously

Choosing Morinth over Samara
Letting Zaeed die
Most of those random people you could execute in Mass Effect 1
Keeping the collector base
Treating your crew like crap

That's what I do if I don't have the points for the first option (sounds absolutely sinister for a "paragon" option, especially if you killed the Rachni and the Council).

3. Letting the stranded girl die on Jacobs LM
4. Saving Morinth

I think, in general, a lot of the dialogue options really cross the line. It fine to be a dick when talking to a Batarian slaver, but when dealing with your own crew you shouldn't be so harsh. But the things that Shepard says to his crew should have him losing loyalty before he ever gets it. It's nuts.

I suppose action that really springs to mind for me as out of place is in convincing Harrot to crush Ken. "I shall crush the Quarian child." Hilarious line, but overly evil.

Interestingly, I think some of the actions shouldn't be "renegade" specifically. Electrocuting the Batarian on Garrus' recruitment is one of them. Doing that weakens the gunship for later battle. Another example is in the same mission when you have mech in your sights and you snipe it. How is that considered "renegade" ??? It's coming to kill you. And it's a mech. It you don't snipe it there, when the cut scene is over you sill have to kill it. Sheesh.

I do that every time I play my John Shepard (I even have the Paragon Points as well!).

Batarians are scum. I felt no remorse in electrocuting him to death with a cattle prod.

Another one is letting the krogan talk and talk and TALK.

You're going to have to kill him ANYWAY so why is it renegade to kill him earlier?

Makes more sense to me if he says "I'm a spectre too". What does it matter if Shepard was a spectre?

Or am I missing the bigger picture?

He says "was" if he isn't reinstated.

I know that. I'm just arguing that it doesn't make sense him saying he used to be a spectre imo.

Well in ME 2, John Shepard (one of my import Sheps) turns cold and turns his back on the Council and Ashley after Horizon. Come ME 3 he becomes even colder to both of them.

That is why he wounds the hosage, because he does not care anymore.

When he says " I was a spectre too" that's basically letting her know he has the balls to do whatever takes to get the job done too.
