Alright I made a silly mistake and misplaced (trashed) the proper UI.ini file when I was installing a mod.

Now I have everything working, but  there is no quick cast menu, and when I bring it up (ie hit "F") the game crashes. So I am wondering what my options are. I prefer to not have have to reinstall, so I will consider that as my last resort.

Other info, I am running Steam Soz ed, so it is fully patched. I installed a large merged override (under Mydoc/NWN2/Override) that includes K's TOB, Reerons, and Wildmage among others. It was the installation for the wild mage that messed it up as it requires an addtion to the UI, but not a replacment like I had done.

I think that I can get the game back to normal if I can get a copy of the normal UI files. Would they have been installed in the steam NWN2 UI directory? I looked there but the files located there all have diferent names. Are there any locations online wher I can get this info or do I have to reinstall?

If you deleted it you may be able to go to the recycle bin, right click on the file, and select restore.

That would be too easy. I did this a few months back. I just had not had the time to get my game on since. But I have had the time to do a lot of disc clean up. Good thing is I freed up some 20-25 Gigs durring this process, so I do havethe room to reinstall if need be. I just rather not if I don't have to.

Incidentally I have looked in the trash, even with a deep file utility, but it is gone.

I'm zipping up a copy of my entire temp folder. I'll dropbox it to you and you can see if that fixes everything. I have MOTB & SOZ fully patched. Not steam version, but if your game is already broken, it may be worth a try. Can't vouch that it will work, though.

I just put this in my dropbox folder and it is still synching. If you go to the link and get an error, that means it isn't done uploading yet. Zipped, it is sitll a 450 mb file, and my computer is estimating 45 minutes from now to completion.
here is the link:

Ok, again. Thank you for the files M. R.

It did not work for me. (may have been a different file that I removed?

I had tried removing all overrides, but this did not help either. I think that I will be removing them all and reinstalling. I will then be more carefull on the reinstallation of the overrides next time.

Steam lets you repair your application folder, should fix whatever the issues are. You should NEVER touch this folder really as 99.9% of everything can be put under "my documents/NWN2". Might be your UI folder but it also could be the ini files as well, or just something corrupted.

Other than that, use the -home option or just rename your player folder in my documents if repairing does not work as there is likely something wrong in this folder instead with a mod you placed there. It will create a new player folder, see if that fixes it, if it does then copy content from your real player folder one at a time until you have everything moved over - at some point you'll notice the culprit and you can either delete it or fix the underlying issue.

Thank you Pain.

This worked flawlessly.

Step 1 rename the Neverwinter Nights folder under my documents.

Step 2 update steam client. I was in off-line mode for the last 6 months, so it was expected that there may be some updates to the client.

Step 3 follow the instructions in the link (basically right click on NWN2 in steam library, select properties, then check out the Local Files tab, and click Verify Integrity of Game button.)

Wait 20 mins for it to complete. inspect my documents to see if any changes, (noticed that there were n updates) Try out game to see what happens. It starts, Pick Wizard, notice all mods not loaded (this is good cause they are in the renamed file). Play tutorial, and click "F", and VIOLA quick cast is back!

Step 4 go to sleep and dream of how awsome the game will be when I get the mods installed and working properly this time.
