I play all my Engineers, Sentinels and Infiltrators with Shotguns. It works wonders.

Anyway, yes there are Vanguards. If you equip Liara with a shotgun she essentially is one right there. Lets recap, who were the vanguards in ME2? Jacob maybe? Jack? Why would you consider these vanguards? They had some standard abilities plus a shotgun.

Now, with the new weapon system you can give anyone any weapon you want. At the end of the day there weren't really any Vanguards before anyway, they were biotic specialists. In ME3 that's not any different.

Unless you want party members to get iconic Vanguard abilities such as Charge and Nova, in which case.. that would be pure chaos.

Liara is technically an adept. She has singularity and was ME1's biotic specialist. Also, in ME2, all her powers were biotics. Also, if you give an adept a shotgun as a bonus talent, is it a vanguard?

Charge, melee, Shotgun is a nice 3 combo kill. I had the most fun playing vanguard with Garus and Legion sniping.

Pretty much, he's kind of a "human Grunt", he's focused on surviviability where Ashley is focused on letality, and since he has no biotic abilities, he can't be Vanguard

For Vanguard lovers you only hope is the DLC squademate who seems to be half biotic....the other half is TBA, so he's either Adept or Vanguard

I do, I played through ME1 three times (two of them with vanguards) and ME2 once without touching a shotgun but after I got the hang of ME2 style vanguard I fell in love with them. I plan on trying out a shotgun sentinel in the future. But I will admit that I don't let any of my squadmates use a shotgun.

Ah, the story mode of Mass Effect.

What does that mean? lol does that mean it's typical to play or something? I've also played soldier, Infiltrator, and Engineer

I have to agree with the Charge ability. It's useful. But in terms of power

1) Pull: useful, but not as good as singularity and lift (depending on which game). I'd rather have the ability to Warp over use pull

2) Shockwave: I never found is as useful. yes, it has area effect, but it's hard to aim through a lot of cover. I prefer throw, so I use sentinel or adept instead

3) Shotguns: lol i've never really used one. Maybe I will give it another shot

I always ran myself, Grunt/Wrex and Garrus. I was in charge of biotics and shield reducing. I stun enemies, knock them off their feet, lower shields, and use tech armor to act as a bullet sponge. Grunt/Wrex was in charge of dealing massive amounts of damage quickly. I never let him use his shotgun. Wrex's warp and stasis abilities helped me out a lot with taking down big guys, and Garrus was my long range, and could help me take down shields with Overload. So I could pump out 2 overloads, 2 warps, and a lot of gunfire (I took Assault rifles on my second playthrough)

I had even amount of biotics, even amount of tech, and good firepower

mmmm... if Ash is the VS:
- 2 Soldiers.
- 2 Engineers
- 2 Adepts.
- 1 Infiltrator
- No vanguard and no sentinel.

I play a Vanguard (or an Adept).

And I'm pretty sure I'll be using Garrus and Liara the whole time (I tend to only carry around my favorites) so the lack of a vanguard squadmate doesn't matter much to me.

I think so, too. Saren and Vasir also being Vanguards points to it being the canon class for Shepard, or the closest thing to canon we have thus far.

I got my buddy Jim on infiltrator, Rob on soldier, me on Vanguard. We just need to find an engineer to round it out.

I'd like to add that playing as a manguard puts hair on your chest. Yes, MANguard. That applies to FemSheps as well, no exceptions. :bandit:
