I agree with this. Either BioWare needs to scrap the Vanguard class, or they need to rework it.

1. Vanguards do not have any shielding abilities, even though they are designed to be a close-range class.
2. Biotic Charge and close-range combat is a really bad idea on Hardcore and Insanity runs.
3. Enemy Vanguards can use Warp. Vanguard Shepard cannot.
4. The only protection Vanguard Shepard can strip innately is Armor with Incendiary Ammo, this means that if you take a bonus power to "round out" protection stripping capabilities, you will either be unable to strip down Barriers, or Shields. All of the other classes can be rounded out to strip all protection types, with the exception of Sentinel and Soldier, who can strip all protection types innately.

Vanguard is pretty much god mode on insanity once you get know how to use it and doesnt have a shielding a ability? thats what the "heavy charge" upgrade is for it refills your barriers to 100% which you should get asap any ways and even before you get it lv's 2 and 3 also refill barriers 50-75% respectively

and iv never felt like I needed warp or any ammo powers other than inferno any ways (even when i was using Zaeed Id turn on inferno for the AoE damage)

edit: also heres a video of the vanguard soloing the geth colossus on insanity using nothing but the shotgun, charge and melee attacks

I took Reave for armor and biotics, and had Geth assault rifle and/or arc projector for shields. Didn't have any problems making runs on my vanguard. You cant always go charging about all over like a ping pong ball on crack, but vanguard is still very viable for higher difficulty runs.

Who needs Vanguards anymore? Since, in ME3, we can have squadmate hold any gun. That means just equip a shotgun and some gun to Liara and we have a Vanguard! The only thing you can't make is a senintel since you can't give a squadmate biotic and engineer powers.

Why does everyone assume every vanguard uses a shotgun? Vanguard powers with SMGs or AR work just as great, if not better. for me anyways idk man, idk.

Because in ME1, that was their thing. If you were going to use a shotgun, you were probably playing a Manguard (see top of pg.3 for reference). In ME2, Grunt had a shotgun and was just a soldier, and Manguard gained submachine guns so it didn't matter anymore

a good me2 vanguard player will make the screen look like a pin pong table. Fun Fast as hell and crazy awesome and extemely dangerous.

SO the same logic will apply.

Vanguard is keep your ass moving class.

Tried once. Canned that playthrough if I remember correctly. I hate shotguns and didn't like the class either.

Assault rifle is a must, sniper comes close too.

I think so, too. Saren and Vasir also being Vanguards points to it being the canon class for Shepard, or the closest thing to canon we have thus far.

I'm sorry if this is going to come off as condescending, but the game has been out for two years now. At this points, complaining about Vanguard being impossible on Insanity is stupid since there's plenty of vids on youtube of people playing, aggressively at that, on youtube.

The answer to all your points is to stop sucking.

Has anyone here ever tried Husk bowling with Shockwave? There is nothing in the ME universe as glee-inducing as Husk bowling. You should try it sometime.
