Knightofphoenix said it best:

"Had them exterminated. A regrettable necessity. But their very nature makes them very hard if impossible to integrate into a galactic community, and it makes them a very potential short and long term threat."

Yeah, I couldn't bring myself to commit genocide.

The Thorian, the Collectors, the batarians and [eventually] the Reapers say hi.

I think I should leave this thread before I get caught up in it.

The four times I've played through ME1 (okay, five--I did one character twice), I've let her go. Implications aside, I'm too much of a touchy-feely baby to drown her in acid.

And I got sooooo close in my last playthrough, too, but I was like BAAAW CAN'T DO IT THIS IS SUCH A CRUEL AND NASTY WAY TO PUT HER DOWN AND SHE'S SUCH A COOL LADY!!

QTF.

This is what I was going to post.

I let her go. Honestly, everything pointed towards it being a bad idea. But the way the rachni communicate, the sadness apparent in their fall from grace, and the fact it would be the elimination of a species...I couldn't do it.

I've tried, multiple times, to pick the choice to end her. But I couldn't. Even if it bites me in the ass and I have to put down the rachni, again, I'll at least be somewhat satisfied that the queen got to spend some time outside of a cave.

I let her live. A rachni army will be useful against the reapers. One word: revenge.

I always let her live because I plan on using her species as a shield against the coming reaper invasion. Why kill her when you can use her species to much greater effect later in the series?

I saved her, it's just mean if you killed her. She could be very helpful though.

I let them live, given the concept that Murdering a species that I wasn't around for isn't my call.  Whose to say integration with the Galactic Community will be any more different with an Intergalactic War.

I always let her go, I'm not going to condemn a species to extinction. Every race except for the reapers deserve a second chance

I've been pondering on this subject lately. There are compelling reasons both for and against killing her, but I'm unsure where I stand on the issue.

On one hand, they could prove to be a pivotal ally in the war against the Reapers, and Shepard will need all the help he can possibly get. And they're obviously competent in battle and have great strength in numbers, as demonstrated by the Rachni Wars and the events of ME1.

But on the other hand, the best indicator of the future is the past. And a race vulnerable to indoctrination on a mass scale could easily be turned against the galaxy once again, providing the Reapers with that ally instead.

I think I'll ponder on it for a little longer (something Bioware games do have a tendency to make me do).

I let her go under the assumption that at some point in the ME franchise, she will finally be a LI, enabling me to be her Rachni King and we ride off into the stars at the ending credits. Don't let me down ME3.

Isolate. Simplify. Complete.

The war is complicated enough without adding a whole new enemy to the mix. If I thought there were better than even odds they'd be friendly I'd have spared the queen - god knows, I wanted to - but ultimately, when I gamed it out in my head, there were just too many ways that the rachni could have been the end of everything.

What I'd really have liked to have done was secure the cage and wait for the Citadel Fleet. But we all know the Council would rather date varren than send non-human assets into the Traverse. So, the rachni queen got the acid wash from me.

It sucked. But war is supposed to suck.

I don't think the greater good is served by soldiers becoming murderers.

Because the rachni past was so peacefull and warm based on the info we had at that time, isn't?

Is easy to make judgements now that we have ME2 and the info in ME3.

Well... AFAIK, no diplomacy has ever occured between Rachni Queens and other sentinent races (outside of the barrel of a gun). So, here was a queen against the norm, proving the council/codex information to be sketchy/unreliable again.

To be fair I'd have killed her if she wasn't sentinent... Also, she would be a useful counter-weight against the Krogan in the future. That's what I gathered from ME2! I believe the first time I played I let her go for the first reason and later scenarios (once I'd completed ME1 and started 2) made me think that's probably the right choice.
