Out of pure boredom waiting for the game i really want to play (Mass Effect 3), i picked up this game because it apparently has the same story depth as Mass Effect and isnt just another 'Gears of War' rubbish or 'Dungeon Siege III' dungeon crawler with no story at all. That and the fact that it was only priced at a few bucks.

Worst case scenario, i waste a few bucks on another 'The Witcher' game i play for a couple hours and forget i installed it after that.

What i want to know, is who the characters on the box art of the standard game are. There is a weird red dragon in what looks like blood with dark red armoured warrior and a hooded, what looks like, sorceress.

Thanks.

The woman is Morrigan, a witch who plays an important role in the story. The dragon is the Archdemon, who you will find out more about in the game. The warrior I'm not sure about, I always assumed it was a stereotypical figure for your character.

And, DA:O is awesome.

I will assume the dragon is the enemy, you used the term 'witch' for Morrigan so i will also assume she is an enemy too. As for the warrior, i kind of assumed he (according to the manual which i just flicked through you can be male or female) was just ''your character'' in default armour etc.

The dragon is the ultimate enemy, the endboss.

Morrigan is not the enemy, no. But she is originally titled as a "Witch of the Wilds."

And your character can be a mage, a warrior, or a rogue--but I suspect they just went with a warrior for the cover.

I always assumed that was you on the cover as well. And they went the warrior class, kind of like how DA2 had Hawke as a mage on the cover. Maybe DA3 will have a rogue.

I wouldn't put too much thought on the cover. After all ME2 had Thane on the cover and I don't understand that one. "look a new race!" Give me someone plot relevant please. Shep and Miranda made sense, but still don't get Thane.

I know as much about this game as the IGN video review, first half of the game manual and the extremely short text on the back of the box. This game has not interested me in the least until i recently become bored waiting until March 8th.

I hated The Witcher, Skyrim was just reasonably ok, but Mass Effect i cannot get enough of.

@Lavigne um, my copy of DAII has Hawke with a sword...and in real armor, not robes :P

@Mouse I've never played the Witcher, so I'm not sure how similar it is to that, but it is like Mass Effect in that it is very very character based, with a premium placed on party interaction. As a matter of fact, it does it way way better than Mass Effect ever did.

He's wearing the Champion mage robes. And that's not a sword, it's the lower half of the Staff of Parthalan.

So far, ive chosen to be a mage, done some boring quest in 'the harrowing' and noticed they use the exact same animations as the old republic. (i am well aware this game preceded the old republic)

To be quite honest, this game seems really boring so far.

I know all of you will most likely say ''it picks up'' and ''it gets better" etc etc, but i doubt i will be playing it much longer. Its just a very slow game. The reviewer in the video states that ''tactical pauses'' are required - which is almost exactly what KOTOR required... and i really did not like KOTOR's game mechanics (the story may well have been really amazing, but the mechanics killed the game for me). The game manual specifically stated pausing the game is required on all but the easiest of difficulties.

Thanks for your help and insight on this thread.

EDIT - Before you go dooming me, i give every game i buy a 2-3 hour trial run. If it has not wow'd me and got me interested enough to WANT to keep playing - it quickly gets forgotten. So far, ~30 minute mark on this one.

I severely disliked Origins the first time I played it. Didn't pick it back up for a few months. That's just what happens sometimes. You may get into it later or it just didn't do anything for you. There are games everyone loved that I didn't get into either. It happens. At least you gave it a try.

Yeah very true that Asch. I own KOTOR and have for YEARS.

Installed it for the first time a couple months ago since i bought it many years ago. Got to Taris... and stalled. (I am told i got to about 5% of the entire game)

Game just ran out of steam.

Its like the first time you play world of warcraft. Hey cool this is really awesome! "Now go kill 10 boars''. /sigh

EDIT - In the long run, i own it now. It is installed and up to date. So in 6 months time when ive clocked 200 hours in Mass Effect 3 and completed every DLC they will ever put - i can go back to it and try again. Just like Skyrim. I finished the main quest line, so when the dragon riding DLC gets release (please?) i can go back and do the side quests.
