Was it worth writing and recording a femshep?

Should've made her into a companion. Manshep is the only shep.

Not really. Many outside of hardcore fandom probably see it that way because of past marketing. The default male Commander Shepard is the iconic Shepard to the gaming public who know anything about Mass Effect, but are not serious fans of the franchise.
That fact may offend the sensitivities of BSN's progressive hive mind, but it remains the truth.
Maybe ME3 will change that. But I have my doubts.

I don't think the vast majority of people who play femshep would disagree that default shep has it's marketing thing going. I also don't think the vast majority are offended by that fact.
If people have a preference, that's one thing. But theres a very destinct trend of people who'll bash the idea or need of a femshep who also have very closed-minded opinions about everything these boards will cover, or will throw out troll threads and comments.. and the occasional desire to permaban over being called silly, where much harsher tags would have been just as accurate.
I just find it cute that her existence takes nothing away from the ME experience, and yet those who refuse to play her feel so strongly about her. I'd direct these people to watch classic sci-fi films with strong female leads, or try to grasp the appeal of having a woman in the role BECAUSE it doesn't fit some tired mold. Unfortunately, it's easier for them to dismiss the possibility and insult, than simply say to each their own.

Those are actually quite high number.
Last year( before E3), it was confirmed that ME1 and ME2 sold over 7 million copies.
So let's split that to 3.5 million people.
18% of that is 630,000.
So that's quite a big number of potentially returning customers for ME3.
21,600,000 $ to be earn from those people in ME3.
And that's if they all buy non-used standard edition of ME3 near it's launch.
It can be even more since lot of them will buy Collector Edition.
So yeah, I'm pretty sure FemShep was worth it.

I'm pretty sure bioware has made it clear that there is no cannon shepard, and he/she is who you want them to be.

Bioware made it pretty clear that there was no canon revan. Until the book.
Also, Mass Effect movie is based on Shepard. And don't think that Bioware holds BSN as a higher priority than if they thought that they could earn a bit more money by cannonizing shepard for the movie.

Good post.
It's refreshing to see level headed discussion and intelligent posting here on occasion. It just proves that some folks can have varying opinions on BSN, without a lot of childish nonsense. I've seen way too much of that since joining these forums. Reminds me of Ubisoft's message boards.

Bioware's opinion on the matter didn't mean jack because Bioware has no authority to decide Star Wars canon. It's Lucasfilm who gets to decide. And Revan had been "canonized" as a light-side male who romanced Bastila long before the novel came out.

As for the gender, if I recall correctly, one of the Codex holders (or whatever you'd like to call him; the title escapes me at the moment), was really pushing for Revan to be female. He succeeded with the Exile (lightside female), despite the game not making as much sense with that gender. =D

Danke!
These boards aren't so bad. Tho I'd be a liar if I didn't say I loved to see who said something silly every day. Usually it's the same four or five people.

And you know....if femshep was actually marketed properly from the start of the trilogy, that number would be a lot higher. At least they've finally realized this now.

The problem is that FemShep is just ManShep with boobs. To say that there aren't many female protagonists like her is like saying there aren't many male protagonists like male Shepard. They're the exact same character, gender aside.AdmiralCheez wrote...
So, Tetris, baby, how many accounts have you made, exactly?
Seriously, though, I don't think I would have ever gotten into Mass Effect as much as I did if it weren't for FemShep. You don't see many female protagonists like her.
And that's why I love Shepard.
