So, Tetris, baby, how many accounts have you made, exactly?

Seriously, though, I don't think I would have ever gotten into Mass Effect as much as I did if it weren't for FemShep.  You don't see many female protagonists like her.

The problem is that FemShep is just ManShep with boobs. To say that there aren't many female protagonists like her is like saying there aren't many male protagonists like male Shepard. They're the exact same character, gender aside.

And that's why I love Shepard.

I think that was Admiral's point. She's the EXACT same as manshep - she doesn't get any special treatment just because of her gender (see Miranda) ; she isn't sexualized like other female protagonists; she's just another marine that you wouldn't want to ****** off. Which is why she's one of a kind in the world of video game protagonists.

What's the purpose of this thread, exactly? Yeah, only one fifth of the players favoured FemShep. One-fifth of a whole consumer base is a lot, and even if it certainly doesn't mean every single person who played as her was drawn to the series just because of her presence, we can assume it had an impact for several. In the end, it's a few more NPC lines, re-recording Shepard's dialog (which isin't that plentiful) and some new animations. Sure, Hale might not be free, but it's a far cry from making even a dent on the big budget the series must have. I'm sure Martin Sheen, Seth Green and Yvonne canneverspellherlastnameski cost more than her, for one thing, not to mention, you know, paying all those workers for creating the game in the first place. In the end, the cost must be lower than the potential returns, since they stuck with the idea.

I mean, I just justified her existence with basic logic, and didn't even bring all the other facets of the subject in, like, you, those little, worthless things called character customization or gender equality. Bioware (and by extention many CRPGs) had the player choose the sex of his or her avatar for as long as I can remember, why should they stop because, lo and behold, most gamers are male and prefer playing a man? I mean, it's not like this is breaking news or anything. So again, what was the point in creating this thread, OP? You know questionning FemShep's existence will only engineer venom (rightfully so if you ask me, and no I'm not a feminist or whatever), and we have more than enough of that to go around.

I'm a male gamer, but I can't imagine Shepard not being female. I've played both Mass Effect games as a male only once, and it personally felt a little off.

Despite being a tetris topic, ergo a troll topic, I'll take the bait:

Absolutely.

On the same note... Was it worth including the adept, engineer, sentinel, infiltrator and vanguard?
Most play Soldier anyway...
I will make a thread about it, so I can be as smart as you tetris.

Yes.

The bigger argument could be though, why pay for a male OR female voice actor when you could have taken away the voice on the lead all together?

But if even a paltry 200,000 gamers bought it because they could play with a female lead - thats a huge bump in their overall sales and income that more than warrants hiring Hale.

All the Sheploo marketing at work made me sad, so I printed FemShep pics and cut them out and stuck them on every second case. :D Even my co-worker told me, if it wasn't for me telling her you could play as female, she would of never known otherwise and wouldn't consider playing it. I do find it a bit late, though. :/

It's a legitimate issue; however, Bioware has decided the FemShep project is worth spending money on.

I've never used Femshep ever

Same here. Plus I doubt most players who use male Shepard even come on this forums. So just because what you have heard majority in here was saying, doesn't make it so.

But really, it's always good to give people a choice. I might have tried female Shepard, if I didn't dislike Hale's performance so much.

Haha, your comment reminds me of Iron Man movie.

In the start Tony Stark says: "GOOD GOD YOU ARE A WOMAN!" when one of the marines speaks, he didn't even realize it before that.

Nothing at all, but having heard my co-worker's comment on it I just want others to know you can play as a female and maybe get more people into buying it. :)

Tetris, you have free speech! Fight for the right! Keep on Trolling mang!! As to the (non)question; Femshep is the greatest. Without the femshep option, Mass Effect is just another 'dudebro shooter clone' turd
Well, maybe not...but the option to be a custom female is really cool!

I think it's a valid topic, but not one the fans can discuss from a fincial:( perspective. From a fan perspective, more options are always better

Oh don't worry, Shepard would still have love interests in bed room. So it wouldn't totaly be bro-shooter!

I think Femshep is great and I will tell you why. She actually is the antithesis of what all modern feminists want and have striven for. She DOES get equal treatment, she gets equally screwed and has the exact same burdens, not like real life where there are women's services for everything, quotas, help stations and basically privilege in just about every sphere of life. Femshep represents TRUE equality because no one is giving her special privileges because she has a vagina, unlike real life. She has to take it, just like anyone else. Now, whether or not women in real life would want to the same 'rights' as Femshep, very unlikely but ME is very equalist in a way that real society never will be so I tip my hat off to Femshep.

My Renegon Sheploo is far from cliché. ^_^

Femshep is the ANTIfeminist woman. Believe me, despite all the attendant BS we have to deal with, her presence is a good thing precisely because her role is completely different to reality.
