The Assassins would totally accept members of other species.  

My only objection would be to take the story away from Shepard.  He's got too many "Mary-Sue" qualities as it is.  

Regardless of the tie-in or not.  I'd love for the next ME game to include free-running and stealth into the third-person-shooter/RPG gameplay we have.  Have the next protagonist be more nimble and fluid and allow the player to open up beyond just the narrow hallways we have now.  A free-roam ME game would be awesome.

Garret from the Thief games. You'd have Garret and Kasumi in your squad and you would totally forget they were there. You'd turn around and they'd both be standing there giving each other stealthly sexy looks and you'd freak out.

Or...

Agent 47. A Reaper would land next to you on a planet surface and you'd be like, ****, we're dead. You would totally overlook he Reaper's unexpectedly huge, shiny head. Then he'd be like, Shepard, I'm back from my mission.  You would all have a great laugh. Except Garret and Kasumi, who had been having sex all mission when you weren't looking. Then you'd be like "WTF, you're in the wrong paragraph!" And they'd be like "We're pretty sneaky, huh?"

So that's my answer.
