Completely depends on what you want out of your gaming experience, they are way different games with different focuses.

I haven't played The Witcher 2. And Skyrim (sorry fanboys)... yes, it's a great game in some regards, but I found it very, very lacking in RP, and little else than a simple dungeon crawler. I played it for a couple of weeks, got bored, and haven't touched it again.

On the other hand, there's a vast amount of available mods and many more will be coming in the future, so I may give it another go some day and try some of those.

In all fairness, the "RP" sense was better than Oblivion's... not to say its stellar though. The biggest issue I have with Skyrim is the bugs.. I don't understand how a game like NWN 2 gets knocked on for its bugs when their not (and never were in my experience) quite as bad as an Elder Scrolls titles collection of them.

...anyway, back on topic...

I have been wanting to check out the Witcher (1 and 2) for a while, but I keep hearing mixed things about its combat model. Thoughts on it? Frustrating or fun? Also, the main kicker; they particularly replayable?

...anyway, back on topic...

As with the majority of the latest topics on these forums, the line between on and off-topic seems a bit blurred to me.

I played The Witcher 1 very briefly and I didn't like the combat mechanics. But maybe you get used after a while... I don't know, it was very brief (only the intro quest). No idea about TW2.

I haven't played much Oblivion, but saying that Skyrim's RP is better isn't saying much. I don't want to spoil it, but as a example, many conversations/quests in Skyrim go like:

- PC: Hello, I'm new to the village. Could you give me some directions?

- NPC: Oh, yes, the tavern is down the street. You could go and rent a room, but... wouldn't you prefer to join and rule our mages guild? We know nothing about you, but we'd be so glad to have you as our boss.

- PC: But I've never cast a spell... I'm a warrior.

- NPC: Oh, don't worry, that's not necessary. Come, I'm sure you'll make a great archmage anyway.

That's ridiculous. Some people may not care, but things like that are a total immersion-breaker to me.

Arkalezth; true enough. By no means do I consider any Elder Scrolls title to have much in the way of RP, just that Bethsda's at least starting to the turn in the right direction.

Honestly, the one thing that breaks the immersion for me more than anything; how every NPC will say something to you the second you even get near them. Often times its more than just a hello or goodbye too... this includes the infamous "I used to be an adventurer like you, till I took an arrow in the knee" line (I didn't ask what you used to do, why are we even talking???).

Absolute worse; Mjoll's constant blabbering about how her father was a hunter and wanted her to do this and that, and how she did this at that point... in the middle of a dungeon, out of nowhere...

I don't see any OT in this thread.

Got back to playing TW2 this weekend. The combat ain't bad. But, I've been playing fps games for the past few months so having to directly control a pc is not a problem at this point.

I had been playing NWN2 and DA2 before I bought TW2. At that point I was not happy to direct control a pc and not have a real party.

I don't see me playing more than once.

If you play the OC as a male tiefling, and take Neeshka back to West Harbor, Georg pretty much assumes you've bagged yourself a tiefling wife.

The ME3 demo is out and the MP is NEAT! So, TW2 is going to have to taker a back seat again.

One of the NEAT! features of ME3 demo is it's three game modes, namely, Action, Role-Play, and Story. Action has no character customization or dialog choices. You get the default Sheppard and default story. It's just cinematics and shooting. You can adjust the difficulty.

Role-play mode is standard mode.

Story mode is role-play on easy difficulty.

Enjoy it I'm just going to read the walkthrough and leave my Shepherd in the Omega relay until I can get a super mega cheap non EA bargain bucket version as I refuse to be dictated to and made to jump through hoops to play something I bought and hell will freeze over before I stick Origin on my PC.

In that respect and staying on topic NWN2 is one million times better and you don't even need a disc once it's CD key goes in and you load it. The game you paid for is yours forever and not at the mercy of a company that can "turn out the lights" when they decide you should be playing their latest product instead or jumping through more hoops to keep up with their demands if you want to carry on playing it.

In fact NWN2 could way outlive modern PC games for this very reason.

Tsongo..

EA Origin was down for about two hours today. Couldn't play BF3 or ME3 Demo during that time. But could play DA:O, DA2, and ME2, .... and NWN2.

So, hurrah to NWN2 for not being shackled to that garbage.

Exactly, you paid for it and can play it whenever and wherever you want. You'll have to ask for a presidential pass to override Origin.
