It's worth mentioning I haven't read the codexes and possibly never will (shame on me).

What I want to ask is that I remember in one of the conversations with Mordin where he mentions his nephew and brings up that salarians only live for about 40 years. My question is basically why is that? did he mean 40 earth years? or 40 [salarian home-planet] years? if he meant earth years why do they have such a short life span? that's half the life of an average human and salarians and renound for their skills in science.
