Rogue tranquil? Huh? But why would they (the templars, I presume) make a non-mage tranquil? Just to be dicks? I guess it could happen. However, I don't think what you're describing is possible. If you're tranquil, you're cut off from the Fade and I'm pretty sure you are emotionless by definition. I'm not sure if it's possible to be "sort of tranquil" - Anders described it as a decapitation. I don't think you can be "sort of decapitated".
I think a tranquil character would be interesting in idea... but boring in execution. How interesting is it to talk to and interact with a character that literally has no personality? Maybe for like the first five minutes while you wheel around the concept.
I want:
A female Kossith mage
A blood mage from Tevinter
A half-elf
Another lady dwarf (or bring back Sigrun! After no lady dwarves in DA2 it seems obligatory)
A demon
Just some random ideas that might be potentially interesting.

Half-elves end up human actually. Aparantly the human bloodline is stronger. Alistair is aparantly a half-elf, according to one of the DA books.
Yeah, I know, but I was thinking of for example Feynriel from DA2. His features still looked slightly elvish, and at any rate, I was thinking it'd be more interesting to see the cultural issues and identity of elf and human heritage.

I'm just hoping for a diverse group. Not just humans, with one elf and one dwarf. So I'm guessing the group will have 8-10 companions in DA3. The group shouldn't be too large, thus giving them more screen time and interaction with the hero.

Thanks for the great ideas. I took your ideas and came up with mine from there!

With all due respect guys, *personality* (and voice acting, I guess) is what makes and breaks a character, not this silly laundry list of checkboxes.

My idea for DA 3 companions would be
1.) - if not a main character - Hawke should definitely be one of the companions, based on your choices - either from DA 2 save(as save transfer function) or History Selection.
2.) A dragon - like Flemeth, or possibly even Flemeth. She would be normal 'sentient' - like Flemeth, human with horns. But in combat she transforms into dragon and fight as that. Even all her talents would be completely unique, and she would`t be using weapons at all. However trinkets, accessories and other jewelry (possibly things like tattoos and piercing too) should be customizable.
3.) A ghost(spirit) like a certain character from Dragon Age : Assunder - maybe even the said character.
4.) A mad evil wizard - just like Edwin from BG2. NO DO GOODER. Just mad powerhungry clone of Palpatine that will screw you over 99% times and has answer for everything.
5.) A human/elf/dwarf trapped in some form or the other - like Morte from planescape Torment, or Crow from Longest Journey(not sure if he was polymorphed now). Like a human stuck in a form of dog, and that dog can talk, or a human stuck in form of something that can fight somehow - like Morte did lol - with his teeth. And there could have being a quest to bring him back - like unmake curse or something, BUT it should`t be a stupid generic companion quest that everyone do automatically - in fact 90% of quests should`t be like that.
6.) A Qunari Tal'vashot
No b!tch, old mentor, good guy, overzealous freak, naive fool, etc... the common cliche of Bioware past games that plague them from NWN 1.
And NO Flemeth is not B!tch and neither a old mentor. And the Qunari Tal'vashot is`t overzealous freak, and a ghost spirit should`t be naive fool of course.

Like mr fixit, the race and gender do not matter that much compared to the character interaction.
DA:2 companions are far better designed than DA:0 yet DA:0 companion works better
Somehow, in DA:0 they seemed to be firmer in their belief and voiced discontent or disapproval and could eventually take action
Just imagine a DA:0 morigan or Wynne in Kirkwall or compare Alistair and Anders hissy fit.
I would like the companion’s personal quest depth that we have in DA:2 with the backbone that the companion show in DA:O
as a personal request pretty please with a cherry on the top, get the dog back as proper useful companion no that useless DA:2 sore excuse of a mutt.

Actually, I was OK with the way DA2 handled the mabari. In DA:O I never ever used the dog because I'd rather have companions with dialogue and agenda in my party. Had I taken the dog, that would mean I couldn't bring someone along who possibly had something interesting to say about the current quest.

I'm not 100% sold on the Alistair=Fiona's son fan theory but I'm quite happy in thinking that half elves will be human in physical size but their features can be any where on a sliding scale between human and elf.

I'm only half kidding.
(p.s. I do like the idea of Sigrun or a female dwarf for reals. No female dwarfs in DA2 was RIDICULOUS.)

man you missed something
the dog was the best anti-mage/archer weapon of the whole game and a reliable tank.
he /she never disagreed about your descissions.
and woof woof is quite informative...

Yeah, I know he's very strong. But, still, I always feel like I'm missing something actually useful and interesting storywise when using him.

That being said, I'm not opposed to a beast character. But I think I'm burnt out by mabari. I think it'd be cool to have a dragon companion or something more interesting. Or... a gryphon! Heck yes, Bioware, I'm a genius. Give us a gryphon.
Also, I'd love Hawke as a companion. S/he doesn't die in DA2 so they don't have to worry about handwaving. Hawke + Warden (if alive) as companions, and I'll preorder DA3 the second I'm able.
