Hi all,
So like a lot of people I'm replaying through Mass Effect 2. Although I remembered this happening on my original play through. It seems like the following has been occuring a lot more this time.
First of all when playing any and all things using Disc 1, the game is fine. Not a single crash, I can also install Disc 1 onto my Xbox360.
When using disc 2 however. Firstly I can't install the game onto my hard drive (can't read disc error), usually gets to 49% or so.
When playing the actual game with Disc 2, I'll get the dreaded "Unreadable Disc" error and will quit the game. So far these occurances have been random with one exception which is a side-mission (Daratar: Secure Smuggled Cargo). WIth that one particular mission, no matter how many times I go back to it, it always crashes. Every other instance has been random and worked the next time I tried.
The disc is perfectly clean, absolutely no scratches. I tried clearing my system's cache without any luck as well.
Does anyone have any ideas? I've seen some threads but most were older and I figured it would be worth while seeing if anything new has come up. The thing that gets me is that it's only on disc 2... Is it possible it's just a faulty disc, and if so would getting a new disc2 copy potentially resolve this issue?
Thanks,
ME2 - Disc 2 Is Unreadable

Seeing that you claim to have seen the older threads, and I assumed at least scanned the latest of such similar occurrences, you would also realise that there haven't been any new words of wisdom regarding the unreadable disc error.
Things that are standard to try: cleaning the disc, cleaning the laser lens, removing and reattaching the HDD (not sure why but Microsoft do recommend such a thing). Changing the position of the 360 could be considered as well just to see whether the disc would install in a different position (worth a try at least).
Since the game crashes consistently on one particular mission I am personally inclined to think something is wrong with the disc; perhaps warped, though I am just guessing. (Is it possible to play that mission with the first disc for comparison?)
A new disc could potentially solve the problem.
Please note that all the above is purely subjective waffle.

Thanks for the tips. I think I'll try a couple of your suggestions (think I'll avoid tinkering with the innards of my console though). See if the mission works with Disc 1. As well I have a friend with ME2 so next time I see him I'll see if his disc works on my console. And if it does... Guess I'll be buying a new disc haha.
Also I don't know if it matters or not. But I figured I'd also mention that I have the Collectors Edition discs running on a Xbox 360 Slim model.
Thanks for the help. I'll post any results later if they seem useful.

Disc 1 did work with that one particular mission I mentioned earlier. Thanks for the tip!

As far as I'm aware the base game even for the Collectors edition is the same as the standard version; the only 'real' difference should be the dlc codes that came with them. As such you should be safe to get a new disc and carry on as normal.
