The burning question here I think is... could YOU stand a playing in a setting where 99% of the npcs use faux-French accents?
I think I'd go crazy.

Absolutely not, faux or otherwise, if it were made, I would not play-it.

However, I'd be happy to see the habit of adding tag questions all the
time go out the door, such as ending each sentence with a "yes?" or
"no?". Real French people don't do that, do they? Is this an Orlesian
habit?

It's actually a surprisingly common habit among non-native English speakers in reality. It tends to start out as a sort of "You/I understand?" thing when their knowledge of English is very basic, and continues into a "Yes or No?" usage, only being dropped once their understanding of English is fairly extensive. It's become stereotypical, but like most stereotypes it's based on an exaggerated reality, that being the fact that English is one of the most difficult languages in the world to learn for someone who wasn't raised among anglophones.

I'd be fine with the French accents, and as many people already have said, Leliana's accent is great, other Orlesians' accents feel a bit over the top at times. It is done, actually. About as much as english-speaking people use the question tag, and it roughly have the same use.

French accents are hot, just the ones in the game seemed more . . . fake french than real french. At least different from the real ones I have been around. So if they had subdued accents or at least more realistic ones, yeah it would be cool. But with the over the top ones .... it would irritate.

If the second game really take place in Orlais then everyone - including the PC - would most likely speak their language, which would then be represented as English, instead of the Ferelden one.

So no accents for you.

Maybe some foreigners from Ferelden could speak in a Scandinavian accent or something.

They ARE realistic. They probably would need to be seriously subdued if a whole story took place in Orlais, but that's it, the ones in the game are real and not especially over-the-top.

The thing that made Leliana's voice sound so cute and all is because it was rare to see Orlesians. To have everyone talk like Leliana, kills the accent.

If Marjolaine's accent is real then I'm the queen of Hyboria.

Congratulation on your coronation !

I'm pretty sure Bioware has put lots of money into the voiceover and that all the Orlaisians are native french speakers.
From memory, Marjolaine just sounds very much like some French gal that speak a very accented english.
Sure it's perhaps a bit too heavy, but it definitely sounded real.

Leiliana's actress, Corinne Kempa is french. I wasn't sure if she really was before I knew who did the VA as she switches to a "estuary english" accent at times, so I assumed she was English.

I would definitely love to go to Orlais and see the rest of the continent. The accents don't bother me at all. Better than the American accents of the dwarves using british vernacular.

It's not Orlais you have to worry about...it's Antiva. If they all sound like Zev, then it's a nation of Puss-in-Boots! /suicide

That will be the first game where I will start of as evil and massacre everyone that is killable. And I will not be amused.

I'd like to see Tevinter. Though Free Marches sounds somewhat sexy too.

Lelianas voice acting was great. Though Isolde did sound hot I think the voice acrtess sounded more italian at times than french. Anora's maid was sweet. Major I didn't care for, the wife unit stood behind me through several of these interplays and cringed. She's french so I was getting an earful and for the next two days she would tease me by saying  "Teeeghaaaan!!"  She does love Leliana's discussion with Morrigan about shopping and the shoes comment.

Dragon Age 2, Attack of the Shoes! Leliana tries to throw a baby shower for Morrigan when they track her down.

Orlais should be interesting locale for the next game...
Plus didn't they say that Orlais had the most Grey Wardens or something?

In the books Duncan is from Orlais. So not everyone will have French accents. Duncan is said to be part Riavini or whatever so I assume everyone from there has an awesome beard.

Personally, I would prefer it if the map were expanded for Dragon Age 2, not moved. I would like to see Ferelden post-Blight, but I would also very much like to go to other places.

Orlais sounds cute. I'd like to see what the Free Marshes are like, too, though. And ofcourse Tevinter.

Leiliani's accent was decent.

The other Orlesian accents were over the top.

Marjorlie (sp?) was the only down point in otherwise excellent VO.

Orlais, Antiva, Tevinter, Free Marches, I don't really care where the next game takes place, I'm just sick of all my fantasy epics never leaving Great Britain.

They have to do what sells, and gamers are by and large an unimaginative lot.
