This has already been asked, I'm sure, but I still have to know: If Shepard dies at the end of Mass Effect 2, and we transfer that save data, who will we play as? The Shepard of the opposite sex with the same voice but called a different name? Does anyone have news on this?

Originally they said a dead Shep would be non-importable, but since they've said they might have SOMETHING if you import a Shepard that died. Most likely just one scene showing the destruction of the reapers or something and then it will boot you back to the main menu.

I thought Bioware said early on that even a save file with Shepard dead could be imported and have the story continue on without him/her in ME3?

No, they specifically said that's the end of that playthrough and you can't port it. Shep's dead = galaxy screwed.

The story continue without Shepard? That would be kind of silly.

Conrad. If Shepard can become a spectre then I don't think that intelligence is one of the prerequisites because shepard is really about as smart as a pot plant.

Justt give him armor and some weapon training, he'll do fine.

Its been said that the three games are Shepard's Trilogy in the ME universe, no Shep in ME3 means its not his story.

Shepard's super clone grown by the Turian Councilor in his secret Laboratory. Originally created as the Councilor's lover because the poor Turian got so embarrassed around Shepard he could only bring himself to criticize the Commander and not ask him out. This daring and dashing clone has been released from the Mad Turian's  bedchambers to fend off the Reapers and save the Galaxy.

Garrus would totally step in for Shep. Well he would for my Shep anyways. Anderson would be a good bet too. Shep has a reputation established that will come in handy in ME3, can't see another character stepping into those shoes at the end, it'd be a complete wtf? moment.

For kicks though I would want the Turian Councilor or Udina. "How dare you interrupt me celebrating Shepard's death, Harbinger. This is an outrage!" *whips out shotgun*

I don't think a save is even made after shepard dies :/
