2. He never said what he BELIEVES it to be/what LEAK it might be, so I wouldn't consider it a spoiler.

And yet the smooth bore 120mm cannon on the M1A1 Abrams is probably one of the meanest pieces of mobile artillery available. ME's sniper rifles are like cannons when upgraded to the max.
There is no need to rifle a rail gun slug, its mass is lowered and its shot out at stupid speed. If the pellet that gets scraped off the ammo block is tear dropped shaped or something similar its going to have no problems travelling through atmosphere at speeds that make rifled bullets look like tossed wet socks.
