But seriously Bioware, do your research.

I am also going to check all your planetary distances and orbital periods against Kepler's third law.

BECAUSE I AM A NERD AND I'M PROUD OF IT.

But I have one question, how does a smooth bore increase ranged damage for sniper rifles?

Oh my go--AAARRRRGGGH!!!

*physics/ballistics RRRAAAAGGGE*

THE RIFLING IS WHAT PUTS SPIN ON THE BULLET TO STABILIZE IT!!  THIS IS WHY MUSKETS SUCKED!!  THIS IS WHY THE NEWLY RIFLED GUNS WERE SUCH A BIG DEAL IN THE 1800S!!

IT IS ALSO WHY CASUALTIES IN THE AMERICAN CIVIL WAR WERE SO HIGH!!  THEY WERE STILL USING NAPOLEONIC TACTICS MEANT FOR GUNS THAT HAD ZILCH RANGE AND ACCURACY!!

GOD DAMN IT.

I AM NEVER GETTING OVER THIS.

PRE-ORDER CANCELLED.

Asked my dad, retired military, why something might be smooth-bored and "better"... only thing he could think of was for "fin-stabilized" ammunition (in which case would be more accurate than rifling) or to reduce wear & tear caused by conventional rifling.

...... soooo.... maybe rifle bullets in ME3 have fins on them?

Wear your Nerd-ism as a badge of honor! I do!

Great debates have started over the depth of mine and random co workers Nerd-ism.

Of course my Nerd-ism goes to the Nth degree so I always win :alien:

A railgun's round is suspended in a magnetic feild, in our case, a mass effect field.  It doesn't or shouldn't touch the barrel at all.  The Shotguns are capable of firing flechettes which would be fin stabilized of sorts.  In addition the Abrams main gun is saboted and fin stabilized.

So yeah, matches up with what I know :)

*as Keanu Reeves*  Whoa.

Cheez is still in competive mode? =]

But seriously, I could see the smooth bore work as Hathur mentions with self-propelled projectile types...

OMG, little fins?  Cutest bullets ever.

Wait, no no no no no.  ME's guns shoot small chunks of hyperaccelerated metal.  Maybe at those speeds, rifling is unnecessary?  Like, the "bullets" would just rip the rifling clean off, anyway?

A helical railgun or coilgun could be closer to ME weapons than plain railguns though.

Boy how time flies.

Was that the one with the pink chick dancing?

Kinda funny, but I've seen that animation WAY too often. Just my opinion, though.

I just hope that they have corrected the bug of the infiltrator, sadly in mass efect 2 they didn't, what happens is that you can actually see the shadow of shepard when he uses the tactical cloak, that shouldn't happen as the idea of invisibility is to re-direct light around the body, thus the shadow is a grave mistake, well not GREAT but it really bothers me
