Do romances in the game have any impact on the story/plot?

Unsure which forum to post this in...but here goes.

Not really looking for spoilers (mild are okay)...just an idea about how romances play out.

If I decide to take on a (whether it be male/female, male/male, female/female) romance, does it play into the story/plot of the game?  Or are romances in the game there just to be there?

I'm not sure whether I'll take up a romance or not...and I definitely won't if there isn't any significance to it.  I'm hoping BioWare at least moderately fleshed out romances if a player decides to engage in one.

Anyone have an idea about this?

It can.

To say more WOULD be a spoiler.

Romances for certain party members definitely play a role in the the plot. I won't say anymore for fear of spoilers.

I surely hope so. Always found it a little sad that in Mass Effect beyond the sexual scene there was no impact in the storyline.

Okay...certain party members.  That makes sense.

Then one of my goals is to see all the variations in the story/plot through multiple play throughs.  A simple yes or no (or kinda) answer will be fine:

If I romance...

...as a male with Leliana?

...as a male with Morrigan?

...as a male with Zevran?

...as a female with Alistair?

....as a female with Zevran?

...as a female with Leliana?

No answers I'll avoid, but yes and kinda answers I'll persue.  Thanks for any help!

To answer the OP's question- yes, certain party members' romances will influence the plot/story.

Edit: Which?

I'm sure that female pc/Alistair will be a influential romance, but that's the only one that I'm 100% positive about.

Since I chose this picture because it looks only slightly younger than my actual age, I have to say that I'm really bummed if I can't romance Wynne. I was about to launch a character with that in mind.

She's like...80 years old..and pretends to be your mom and believes she's always right what on earth is there to like about her? The romance has an impact in house especially if you're promiscuous other than that not really just an occasional jeer from alistair and epilogue mention.

on the bright side, ripping into Wynne for being old was one of my favorite parts of the game

Unfortunately, all origins assume your character is young. As in, barely reached adulthood.

It doesn't matter what gender you are as long as the other person will accept a relationship. Alistair and Morrigan are straight, Leliana and Zevran are bi.

You should be able to guess which romances would be able to influence the storyline. Here's a hint: they're not optional characters.

When people say "story", I guess they mean the MAIN plot. But since the game is all about you moving through the world and essentially creating your own story, of course whatever romance you choose to pursue (they are optional, after all) influences the story.

This won't effect the major plot, but it does obviously effect what happens to her in the end.  It also adds some choices for you in the end as well.

...as a male with Morrigan?

Certain events will happen in the end no matter if you romance her or not, however if you do it can have a big effect on your point of view and how they play out.

...as a male with Zevran?

Don't know

...as a female with Alistair?

This can have a huge effect on the end of the story depending on other decisions you have made as well.

....as a female with Zevran?
