Look, I am not being a fan-boy.  I am just telling you how the mobile industry thinks.  If you go to a mobile game company with an resume full of Android development, the first question they will ask you is "Can you develop for the iPhone".

No I agree with you, no doubt about it. But if a huge AAA company like BioWare is developing phone apps for money making purposes....then clearly behind the scenes all sorts of crazy must be going on.

This is a legitimate concern. Is this in-house or farmed out?  Because I could understand that, if farmed out, that the developer might want to be conservative on release platforms.

Doesn't every major publisher outsource iOS ports to Gameloft and the type? I don't tihnk EA has a dedicated iOS team. I don't think so anyway. Who knows.

Lord, how I hate Gameloft ports.  Write a game that needs a joystick and then give me a virtual joystick that gives no feedback.  That is exactly what I want for my touch screen device.

I actually abhor touch screens. Another reason I'm happy with this phone.

Been looking to replace a six-year-old iPod but it's become rather difficult to find one with a slide wheel.

YES. The only reason I have a touchscreen phone now is that I needed a smartphone for my job and the only ones that were any good were all touchscreens. At least the EVO's haptic feedback makes it bearable. It's halfway impossible for me to text on an iPhone without it coming out like this: "Slkmva;oi slkd. sioavdo"

I had a similar problem recently with my iPod. It's a 30GB Video that I've had for six years and my case for it broke. I asked for a case for it at the Apple store (the classic case doesn't fit, apparently) and I got laughed at. Laughed at.

They then proceeded to try and sell me an iPod Touch. I said I wasn't spending $250 when I had an iPod that worked just fine. I don't support Apple as a company because of this kind of crap. If you're going to make a product that lasts a long time, plan to support it for the lifetime of the product. Geez.

As for moble app developers wanting to develop apps for iPhone...yeah, that makes sense. I get that. What I don't get is why make any app exclusive to the iPhone/iOS. It's not like money will be completely lost by making it for Android...and you ignore an entire market that way. Frankly, it's beginning to tick me off as an Android user. And this isn't just for BioWare or whoever developed this ME app...I'm a pilot, and I've been fighting to get ForeFlight for Android OS, because I refuse to send $600 for an iPad just to run it when I have an Android tablet that works just fine (it was given to me as a gift). I want to be able to have the freedom to choose my device, thank you very much.

Even though games on the I phone are great. I don't own one nor do I plan on buying one. My interest is in other things now. I would prefer major games just stick with gaming devices not cell phones.

Well, it looks good, but if precedence on recent iPhone games has taught me anything, it won't play on my meager iPhone 3g. Oh well.

First of all Android and iPhone use complete different programming languages, so very little of your code carries over (well, if you write in pure C, with no OO-features, you can carry it over; but that is about it).

Second, writing high performance games for the Android is very hard. The Android was originally designed as a Java development environment.  While there is a native development environment for the Android now, there is still enough Java in the way to make it hard to make efficient programs.  You still have to go through Java for many of the GUI elements and it is a mess.

The one thing I hate about Apple Products is that they don't last 2 years before they're no longer supported. A year of patches, and then zip. Why, because the new ipod is replacing it. Same with game. At least with a PSP or a DS, you know you'll be supported for many years. Apple? Nope.

Ah this whole thing is a mess IMO. Make video games, video games not gimmicks just to get things hyped up. Yes I could ignore this game but I don't like any Mass Effect experience being held from me. I'm still waiting if ever for that remake of galaxy on other platforms.

Yeah that's defiantly why I ignore apple now days. You can't expect the product to last long. And I understand because apple has to stay in business but I must say that would be pretty annoying for me.

Honestly, I think these games have been outsourced so I don't think you'll have to worry about them wasting time on it. Money maybe.

It is true that Apple mobile devices don't last as long as game devices.  You can actually go 3 years, but not much more.

However, the stituation on Android is much worse.  Much, much worse.

I hear Google is working on fixing it though.

Well then I can see why they went with iOS. Still doesn't change my opinion that this whole thing is dumb.

You have a point, and I know that from experience (I help my roommate program apps for both Android and iOS).

But, here's my problem...when I got my phone, the iPhone wasn't an option for me: my carrier didn't have it at the time. Not that I would get one if they did; I can't type on them to save my life. So, for some reason, you don't have an iPhone, thus, you can't have the same access to the same applications just because the programming's a pain in the butt? Sorry, but I don't feel sympathetic on that one. It doesn't matter why you don't develop an app for any one platform...by not doing so, you're missing a potential market and making someone unhappy.

I am sympathetic to your plight.  The problem at the end of the day is that not all markets are equal.  The price point for mobile apps is 1-2 dollars.  That means you have to sell a lot to get your development cost back (unless you are just doing this for advertising another product, like ME3).  Even if the market exists, if it is too small (and that means paying Android users, not Android users), then it is not feasible to support it.

That actually looks good. Put that on XBLA and I'd get it.

EA should port this to Origin, XBLA, and the SEN Store (formerly the PSN store).

The fact that the only way I can play the game is on my iPhone isn't all that appealing in retrospect, simply because the touch controls mean the game gets obscured on the phone's small ass screen. I see this game being 100% viable on an iPad, though.

edit: I just noticed that the guy has Cerberus logos on his armor.  I now expect the plot being about a Cerberus soldier not liking what's going on and attempts to contact the Alliance or someone about what's going on on the base and has to fight his way through to deliver the message and rescue hostages.

If it's anything like the Dead Space game on iPhone I'll definitely get it. IMO that was a genuinely good 3rd person shooter, not just "good for iPhone", so it can be done.

as long as it works on my 2nd gen iPod, sure.

This is a good question.

What Generations of iPod touch are going to be able to run this?
