What's "dakka"?

An Orkish word derived from the sound of automatic gunfire.

Bullets and explosions. From the onomatopoeia for automatic weapons .

That is EA

they won't rest till this series becomes call of duty

Don't they understand that one of the reasons people like Mass Effect is because it is NOT Call of Duty?

Dear lord.  Look, EA, here's what you do with a successful IP:

1. Find out the IP's strengths and refine them.  Make them the IP's selling point.

2. Remember what each game did wrong and fix it for the next one.

3. Keep the IP unique in order to create your own niche, since trying to stake a claim in someone else's is nigh impossible.

Hey, hey we'll have none of your blasphemous talk around here. We all know the best way to make games is:

1.) Stick to tried and true business models despite how hilariously outdated they are
2.) Aim for the 14-16 year old kid demographics, and try not to anger their moms enough to make them pay attention to what they are playing.
3.) More dakka
4.) Find out what people like about a game, remove it, and put something else in. They were obviously lying.
5.) Tell the angry consumers how happy you are they liked the new surprises, while casually implying they might want some therapy if they can only express their love through threats of violence and mouthfoam.

You jest, but that is pretty much how a mind of an empty corporate suit works. Obsolete is their way.

Or, you know, they could not do this uneccesary **** and that would make it so you didn't have to grind in the SP. Multiplayer not affecting SP my brown ring bioware.

my only concern for mp is how fast will it become boring? i loved gow 3 hoarde mode but after awile it does get kinda stale.

im not saying omg i want team death match or anything like that but i wouldnt mind some pvp just for replay value regarding just the mp

I can't imagine it will even have the longevity of Hoard mode. Horad mode does allot to mix it up, defense, turrets, mechs, and massive bosses. And that's just what I've heard from friends. (Only played Gears 1 and 2) From what we've seen and heard of ME3s multiplayer, it looks like it's more comparable to Uncharteds Co-op. Which was fun with a few friends, but not alone, or with randoms.

iOS or Android or WIndows Don't have games - they have a ten minute point of interest you can play on a bus ride.

True of iPhone, not iPad.  The iPad sees a lot of startegy games, action RPGs, and even throw backs to 90s isometric RPGs.

The minimal unit of play (launch, play, save, quit) on an iPad is 10 minutes, not the 1 minute you find in iPhone games.

Pretty sure I remeber when it was just announced they were saying it was completely optional. Maybe they never came out and said it wouldn't but they were implying it. Just like they never came out and said "No, there won't be multiplayer." they heavily implied it.

I'm just glad we'll finally have a Bio game where it's actually hard to get the optimal ending.

I highly doubt it's going to be all that difficult.

Optional =/= "Has no effect"

Facebook= the adult(cough) version of the "popular" clique in high school. Can we please just meet face to face, and quit lying about all the fun hobbies we have? Maybe focus on our ACTUAL friendships, not someone we met once at our brother's best friend's sisters BBQ? For the love of god?!?

I don't touch social media with a 10 foot pole.

Then again, I also actively avoid people. So I'm probably not the best person to judge it.

I actually use Facebook to keep in touch with friends I am no longer in physical contact with.  I only set up a twitter account so I could use it on my 360.

Really? I still find it interesting that people would play longer games on a tablet instead of a console or computer - it seems a funny place to be.

Then again - I'm yet to play anything on tablet or phone that can hold my interest more than a minute. But if they're out there - interesting to see where they go with it. Particularly with strategy games - because that is a genre that is has been seroiusly lacking for the last few years.

I would just about never make a handheld game if I were a designer. I really strive for theater and film art quality in gaming creativity, so the handheld rebirth is not impressive to me.

I happened to catch Mike Gamble on twitter just now, and asked him if the perfect ending could still be achieved without all of this extra stuff. His response: "It is. Absolutely. Trust me."

Ah, the good old ending_a_statement_with_the_words:_"Trust me" paradox. :)

What? Why? Why do you feel the need to say that? What are you not telling? :D

What I really want to know is how this Galactic Readiness bar is going to work exactly. If it just keeps increasing until you hit 100%, wouldn't that mean it will, at some point, stop at 100% and remain there forever? Unless it is directly connected to individual playthrough's/saves, I'm not quite sure how else it would work.

Someone illuminate me.

There must be a cut off point. If there isn't - you wouldn't be gaining anything after a certain point - otherwise their claim you get the same level in single player ME3 would be wrong.

Yea, that's what I meant. If it stays that way then we won't be able to gain any more points after a certain point, rendering the whole fuss meaningless and only viable for a single playthrough.

Has the countless number of times Bioware's said "You can reach your 'perfect ending' without outside help" not kicked in yet?

That is not what they said, what they said was you can reach the perfect ending without playing multiplayer.  Huge difference.

Same thing here honestly. If they didn't make MP a must for getting the best possible outcome, why would they shoot themselves in the foot by making the iOS app a necessity when many people don't even own an iOS device?

I mean, yeah a lot of companies today do that but Bioware is not like other companies in that regard.

Geez.

Yep. Beyond single player bonus, it doesn't look like anything for the extra games themselves than the joy of playing the extra games.

But where I really see the benefit of it is - you want to make a particular choice in ME3, but its the choice you really want to make - but its going to cost you a big chuck of your galactic readiness.

So all this extra bits and pieces is going to give you a way of getting your readiness back up - and allow you to make certain choices.

But thats pretty speculative - because we're still not 100% clear on how the Galaxy at War / Galactic Readiness / ME:Rollup Toilet Roll mini game will all work.

It's kinda sad how we're this close to launch and know so little about such central aspects of the game. BioWare should explain this stuff in more detail and should do so soon.
