Yeah - the marketing has been pretty bad.
Were this a new IP and not the third in a trilogy, and had I not already learned from DAOs marketing that marketing could be really, really wrong. I probably would know nothing about this game and shrug indifferently.
However there was some posts that suggested marketing is about to go into overdrive - so it hopefully we'll see more mechanics.
