Chobot doesn't make it tacky? Are you serious? Chobot is nowhere near the league of Keith David, and not even close to the league of Mark Meer or Yvonne Strahovski. She's a games journalist who got the job because she's considered hot.

Keith David is an actor (and a great one at that.)
Mark Meer is a voice actor.
Yvonne Strahovski is an actor.
Chobot is a "journalist."

Which doesn't belong?

If you knew anything about Chobot, her getting the job is more about her being a big fan of Mass Effect more than it is about her looks.

Yeah, is that what they tell you? The gaming media (especially IGN and G4) prey on gamers who think that a hot woman could be one of their own. She got attention because of her mixing sexuality and games.

She got the IGN gig because she modeled with a PSP. Not because she was a legit journalist or anything.

I have nothing against her but it really looks like she was casted for the same reason as Samuel Jackson was casted for the Star Wars prequels, to drawn in a certain demographic, not because they are the best for the roles.

Not even a close comparison. Jackson is an actor. Chobot is not an actor nor a VA.

Kinect is making it tacky? How? Forza has kinect, it isn't tacky, Ghost Recon will have kinect, and it isn't tacky either.

The iOS thing? ME2 had another one (IT was garbage), but it existed and it served a purpose. Same thing with the new one.

How does Jessica Chobot make it tacky, but Keith David, Mark Meer, Yvonne Strahovski, or any of the other big names don't?

Not to sound like a ******, but none of the things you mentioned make it tacky.

Because if something that they don't like happens, it immediately becomes tacky.

Bioware has stated that they want Mass Effect to be as expansive as Star Wars.  You can't do that with three games.  Star Wars didn't do it with three movies.  They did it with comics and novels.  Bioware is doing it with games for smartphones.

They are dreaming if they think Mass Effect will reach the level of Star Wars and have iconic characters such as Star Wars has. Plus the reason Star Wars became a pop culture icon was the 3 original movies and its toys as well the expanded EU . No one in the main stream gives 2 sh*ts about Shepard or any of these characters from these games . you do not see car or phone promos with Shepard in them like you do with Star Wars characters . you Mass Effect fans need to accept that its a game franchise that has no appeal out side of gaming

The only gimmick was ripping off Star Trek and Star Wars .

I don't think most of you know what a gimmick really is, but do continue bashing Ms. Chobot over her looks it reallys brings out your crab mentality...

I just hope that ME3 looks and sounds as original as ME1. I only hope that ME3's story content is not loaded with parodies on ME1 and ME2 plot points. Parodies are the last resort of an impoverished mind.

>TK will be too busy to care through playing ME3 while some very vocal BSN'ers will go on how it's a very bad game and BW should be embarrassed about it. /Sarcasm

But to be honest, there are some things that put me off but I'd still play the game.

I love how half of this thread contains people debating what the word "Tacky" means and the fact that its "subjective"...yeah right.

The ME series ends at ME3 for me. I don't like the direction BioWare is currently heading.

Mark Meer is a voice "actor", anyway.  Part of the reason I can't stand to play as maleshep is how lifeless and uninteresting his work here is.  Maybe he's less awful in other things, but he certainly didn't improve any in ME2 from ME1.

You realize he did a ton of other voices, like the Omega Vorcha and at least one Volus, right? Edit: Actually, his work is far more extensive than that.

For the most part, male Shapard is well voiced. It's just that some of the writing Bioware gives him is a bit...  subpar. Hale gets love because she's emotional. Meer plays Shepard as if he is a straight soldier.

Bioware makes fairly terrible transitional lines, that are written with no emotion, and therefore require no emotion to give.

But they make up for it in the major story parts, I think anyway. Mark Meer actually does very versatile vocie-acting but it doesn't get entirely made use of in Shepard. You can see a lot more of it in the other characters he plays.

Yep, I couldn't believe it was him voicing a lot of the critters and such in Dragon Age.

Everyone talks about Hales Shepard but I havent really noticed her apart from her role as Bastilla Shan because I have the inability to play as a female Shepard in ME (immersion issue).

Tricia Helfer was merely a supermodel with zero acting experience before she was cast in BSG in 2003. I'm just assuming all the Chobot haters here were in all the Battlestar forums complaining about Helfer back then, amiright?

I couldn't care less about BSG, so that fact mean nothing to me. She had 5 years of acting experience by the time she voiced EDI. That is exactly 5 years more than Chobot has.

Chobot is definitely a gimmick and her character looks very weird in game. I do not even know why they want to include her. Really hope I dont need to interact with her character in ME3.

Not awesome button bad, but yes. Too many gimmicks.

Which is why my pre-order, unlike many angry fans(or troll pretenders), has yet to be cancelled. I don't care for the marketing... but at the end of the day, it's all about the game. Not some 2 minute trailer, or "bonus" item that hardly impacts the gameplay itself. Just let me play this thing already. :P

I agree with OP in that this is the first time I have lost track of all the things you have to do outside the game to get the optimal ending in the game - I mean am I going to order certain food to get Galactic readiness points...it is out if control...I mean is the game even playable offline with just one human being who owns an android phone?

The only thing I really have issue with is the sheer amount of different things that provide individual DLC, I always feel most of the game should be available on disc, so any mission and story characters should be on it and too some extent things like weapons and costumes, which let's face it were likely made in the game time frame and same people that are getting our £40-£70 paying them. To get it all and have varied choices in weaponry and characters you'd have to spend over £200, much of it is restricted to region and other things aren't even on the same platform that you've followed the game on (2 ios tie ins). The collectors edition seems so meaningless now and so does pre-order DLC, it's no longer a bonus or incentive but punishment and dissection.
Still for all that I blame EA more. I'm not a huge fan of multimedia experiences either, for games or shows but that isn't just for ME3's release, books and comics that tie into this story where out after the first, and to some extent it's ruining the feature of the series of choices, where these stories made canon have changed certain things for the sequel.
I get where people come from on Chobot, and I have no love for her or IGN but as long as she isn't shoved down our throats and she doesn't shove IGN and other little "easter eggs" with the subtlety of a brick at us, I may like her. She may be a Journalist but what character is she playing? A Journalist?
