I was reading Kotaku on my lunch break earlier and this has made me somewhat disheartened.





I'm not sure if this has been addressed or not since I have been avoiding the forums since the story leak.  Looking at Liara it seems to indicate that the face-mask breather is being carried over from ME2. 

Does this mean we are still not getting realistic helmets and armor for our companions when they are in hazardous environmental conditions or vacuum?  This was a pretty big immerision breaker for me in the last game, it was handled much better in ME1 in my opinion.

Ash has been seen with a 'real' helmet.

So far, this is just a Liara thing. Ash, Kaidan, Garrus, and Vega all have really armor and helmets.

I really don't know why they insist on them.  They look lame, like they're for commuters in a smoggy city.

Tali's been wearing the same exact outfit since the first game, so I just left her out. In her case though, it actually fits since it's standard Quarian wear.

And this is why Liara isn't going to leave my Normandy on any world that might have hostile enviromental conditions. I'll do without biotics on my squad if I have to. I did often enough in ME2 because of this.

I am just hoping it is for promo purposes only and that Liara and Miranda will have real armor in the actual game. Like I said it is a huge immersion breaker for me.

I'm not quite sure why they're giving Liara a breathing mask, but I think the only official comment has been something along the lines of, "We think it looks cool, therefore it stays".

About the only shot of Liara getting armor at this point is if it's part of the "DLC Alternate Look" pack. Miranda wore her catsuit for the entirety of ME2, and Liara's Scientist/Breather Mask combo is what she wore during Lair of the Shadow Broker, so I wouldn't hold my breathe on that changing.

Well, in both pictures Liara is the only one, while Shepard and Mr.Generic wear nothing. I guess it is hard to judge by those pictures.

  Im going to laugh hard If we go into hostile environments again without proper armor.SM was a classic.They really do lover their iconic looks.

Aside from Liara. I think all the possible squadmates will wear helmets in hazardous enviorments.

I never considered this whole breather mask thing as some major issue (only something stupid). But in ME3 case there is something that's bothers me:
Ashley/Kaidan - full body armor with helmet
James Vega - full body armor with helmet
Garrus - full body armor with helmet
Tali - obvious thing is obvious
spoiler squadmate #1 - got it covered too
spoiler squadmate #2 - full body armor with helmet

and Liara - breather mask... ???

I'm just hoping that her ingame alternative outfit (not one from CE DLC) is at least some light armor with helmet.

Look she might wear a helmet. she might. she might be wearing that mask because it's a doctor's mask.why else is she wearing it and Shep and Vega isn't?

conclusion: She was working with something that she didn't want touching her face before Shep arrived and didn't take it off.
