Anyway, if all the other companions have been shown wearing armor, then it's probably a placeholder or promo thing. I'm not to worried anymore.

I am just hoping it is for promo purposes only and that Liara and Miranda will have real armor in the actual game. Like I said it is a huge immersion breaker for me.
......miranda is returning, but not as a squadmate...
and she did have armor, if you got the alternate appearance pack.
if you mean "Helmets" not armor, then it doesn't really matter. Wherever miranda is, I'm sure it's not exploring toxic environments with Shepard.

The significantly reduced vapor pressure would cause your blood to boil at body temp and below. They might very well explode or at the least swell and "pop out". Not sure what the time frame on that would be but it wouldn't be instantaneous.

Well, in both pictures Liara is the only one, while Shepard and Mr.Generic wear nothing. I guess it is hard to judge by those pictures.
I actually got annoyed with the whole armor change thing in me1. I mean, Shepard could never look good with all of that crap armor, the N7 armor was epic and yet it was his default "No armor" costume.
And everybody else changing kind of bugged me. I personally love the whole idea of them only having one or two costumes each in me2.

I kind of like the customized masks on some of the characters. People like Liara aren't really the "helmet type," if that makes sense. I agree however, that customizable squadmates would be best, choosing when they wear what gear and what kind of gear they wear instead of just cycling between two appearances.
its not that she is or isn't the "helmet type", its whether or not one could survive in a vaccum w/o a helmet or any kind of pressurized suit or survive in a hostile enviroment

Yeah, I really couldn't care less about that kind of realism in a game that has sound in space, telepathic sex, a fully-crewed ship with only 1 bedroom, faster than light travel, super powers from "dark energy," and everlasting, evil Super machines as antagonists.chengthao wrote...

I'm not sure her regular outfit wasn't meant to be armor. Note that much of Jacob's outfit is the same stuff. Of course, it'd be nice if she wasn't showing so much unarmored cleavage, but if Samara's been able to get away with that for centuries.....

Are people still complaining about this? At least wait for the game to come out before you get angry for BioWare not giving squaddies actual helmets. If they don't then just ask for a free DLC pack with them.
Me? Complaining? nope

The use of breathing face mask due "rule of cool" is rather stupid, there's a limit at how far you can go with the suspension of disbelief, in ME2 I refused to bring anyone that didn't use a helmet in missions like Legion's, their breathing masks always ruined it for me.
This is actually a common misconception, the human body is strong enough for maintain blood pressure and prevent it from boiling, there won't be anything like an explosion, your lungs will rupture if you have the bright idea of holding your breath though.Jonas TM wrote...

There were several accidents of people exposed to hard vacuum, some where fatal (like the Soyuz 11 accident) but the body doesn't explode or pop, you lose consciousness in just a few seconds and die of asphyxia, the water in your skin will evaporate and your body will swell but that's it. I suppose that after a while your body will freeze due to the loss of heat through water evaporation, but that's just my educated guess.

At no point do I remember any missions in ME2 having an actual spacewalk happen for the squadmates meaning no situations in an absolute vacuum (legion and the heretic station maybe but no air doesnt mean no atmosphere). Yes, some missions could be theorized as having "unbreathable atmosphere" but not "no atmosphere". Those masks that a few folks on the team have provide oxygen which is really all you need.
In space your blood WILL NOT BOIL because the elastic pressure of the blood vessels
keeps it at a pressure high enough that the body temperature is below
the boiling point of blood (same as water) which is like 212 F. Skin is meant to be a badass and deal with hazardous condtions otherwise we would have all died a long time ago.
In space you WILL NOT FREEZE because a vacuum is nothing and you can't take the temperature of nothing. Heat transfer from the human body to space would take a long time because there is no matter in space to transfer that energy (heat) too. A vacumm is actually a really good insulator and your body temp would actually rise slightly and staying cool would be your problem but this why the body sweats to regulate heat.
Decompression would be the only issue and thats if you hold your breath and get "the bends", something some divers get.
Again because none of the missions are confirmed in an actual vacuum some of this science I used can disprove the whineing I see. If it bothers you too much then DON'T PICK THEM FOR THAT MISSION.

is a problem because it can break the Suspension of Disbelief, and kinetic barriers don't work that way, nor is described to be used like that anywhere.TexasToast712 wrote...
This is a problem why? I have a theory that Shields/Barriers actually keep the body stable in EVA and that is why only a mask is required.

I think the one that gets mentioned is disembarking from the Normandy during the SM. It's difficult to see where the atmosphere would be coming from there.

I think people are overreacting to that shot of Liara in a breathing mask. In the same shot, Shepard and Vega are seen without either helmets or a breathing mask. So it is obvious they aren't in a vacuum or hazardous enviroment at that point.
I would hope there is a good explanation of why Liara is wearing that breathing mask during that scene, but without more information I'm not going to launch into a 'preorder cancelled' rant.
