Error during start operation?

Here's an unusual one. I recently re-purchased Mass Effect 2 on Playstation 3. It recognizes the disc as Mass Effect 2, but when the game boots up, it immediately kicks me out onto the PS3 dashboard and says that that "an error occurred during start operation." Looking into the error code, I found it was a code for a semi-elusive disc read problem that might have resulted from a corrupted file system. I followed the instructions to fix this. Sure enough, my file system was corrupted, and I followed the steps to rebuild the corrupted files. Problem solved? No. It still has the same problem during startup. It won't even get to the bit where it tries to update to the latest version of the software. Mass Effect 2 is the ONLY game that has this problem. I returned the disc to Gamestop, replaced it with a new one, and it's having the same problem, so I figure it can't be the disc. (It installed just fine when I tried it on a friend's PS3.)

There's only one thing I can possibly think of that might be causing this. I did own ME2 back when it first came out, and had no trouble running it then. When I traded it in, I uninstalled the game data and DLC content, as it freed up about 8GB of space I could've used for other things at the time. There is currently no ME2 game data, DLC or saved game files on my PS3's hard drive -- none that I can see, at least. Is the game having some sort of software conflict as it's trying to install over some kind of invisible residual data from the previous install? Is anyone else having this problem?

Just wanted to run it by the forums before I either return the game or back up my save files and restore my entire PS3 hard drive to factory standard.

It sounds like your PS3 maybe going bad. I had the same issue with the brick version of the PS3 (40gigs) untill one day i got the YLOD.
