I don't know if there is one for IWD1, however, and I don't know if the mods work with the GOG version of the game
There is and it should work with the GOG version (although I can't say for certain).

I hate IWD2 with a passion, but love IWD1. I think it's mainly due to the 3rd edition rules being used in Infinity Engine, which I view as blasphemy. I'm sometimes intolerant like that.

My common Icewind Dale parties consisted of a bard as party leader, a druid to handle healing and double as offensive caster, a vanilla fighter, a multiclassed fighter/thief, and a mage. Icewind Dale is one of the few D&D games that gave druids and bards lots of love. They get nifty spells and abilities clerics and mages don't. Bards also got a few unique conversation choices worth a nice amount of bonus XP.
It was a far cry from the Baldur's Gate series where bards were fairly bland and druids had fewer options than clerics.
I always added backgrounds to my characters. Usually elaborate backgrounds to explain their alignments and where their dialogue choices lean. I do the same in any game where my character's background is somewhat vague; such as Neverwinter Nights, Fallout, or Arcanum.
Second edition was weird with regard to certain alignments. Like with thieves for instance. I never got why a thief couldn't be lawful good, but they could be lawful neutral and lawful evil. I can understand why they could be lawful good, and I can understand why they might not be able to be lawful at all. But the inconsistency irritated me. I much prefer the far greater freedom that third edition gave us.Jedi Sentinel Arian wrote...

But technically speaking, being lawful doesn't necessarily mean obeying laws. It's more along the lines of incorporating order into their work and outlook. Usually that means obeying the laws of the land, though how strictly depends on your alignment on good-evil and which laws we're talking about here.
No, the first game used the 2nd edition ruleset, and the second game used 3rd edition rules. So mainly, I never liked most of the restrictions that 2nd edition games (like IWD) placed on your characters. I understand why Paladins have to be lawful good, and why Bards can't be lawful, but none of the rest made all that much sense to me. I prefer the far more open 3rd edition rules.Tommy6860 wrote...

Do you mean IWD2?
I think that is how you wanted your character to be be in that respect, and AFAIK, it applied to the dice roll when you accepted that character. You could roll the dice for stats to set that category as well (IIRC, it has been a long time since I played IWD or IWD2), though I always wondered what that would entail after making that change. I don't think there was much difference between the two iterations, but then again, I haven't played IWD in over 10 years and IWD2 in over 9 years. I liked IWD much better than the second release.
