Just to clarify, you can do other things on your computer, and browse other sites while the upload is in process. Just make sure you use a different browser session to do it in (and you might notice the internet is incredibly slow while you're uploading!).

I'm not touching it now until it's done it's got it's own tab and I'll just keep these forums open on the other as I've been happily reading the abuse Bioware have been getting for their Mass Effect 3 lazy and cheated ending. It seems somebody got too big for their own boots and forgot their supporters and where they came from and went for the dollars instead.

Looking at the Dasaria files uploaded recently I think we should also have a category for persistent worlds. Of course that'd be mainly for advertising since the downloads are mostly taken care of by the ADL, but wouldn't be confused with file downloads.

I agree, maybe we could have a site where old and new players alike could visit and see what worlds are available? Maybe even have a section where we could leave notices of upcoming events/sessions on a calendar or something? Would that be at all possible DarkOne- ?
Erik.

OK on part 2 now, looking good but be warned people even if it looks like not much is happening it is if it says upload has started. So don't do what I did and keep swapping about to see what happens.

Well glad you finally managed to get it uploaded, and sorry it's so slow for you! What internet do you have?

So, I was taking a look and there are some modules of the ones uploaded that I've already played. I'd endorse them, but it seems that I have to download them first. Couldn't that restriction be removed? Also, I accidentally clicked on the "vote for me" button.:P I don't know if that action can be undone, but not really a problem either way.

Just an idea to help endorse some of the files that we have used or played through.

Before this goes live we could make a small file to download, then delete that file before this area goes public.

This will allow us to endorse the files we want to and have used without having to download a huge file only to delete it.

Dark0ne- It's O2 broadband no idea how fast it's supposed to go at because the figures are just made up anyway and all say up to blah blah blah. Then you discover that's only if you have a 1 foot wide cable running into the back of your machine from the main distributor next door !

Either way it was definitely unusually slow hopefully because loads of other people are uploading too. I should get it finished by some time tonight if not nobody's going to catch up with me and demand the others now part one is in there it takes a long time to play.

Shaughn78.. No way that's cheating and just recreates the tallys on the vault again ! Let everybody start on an even playing field so some of the mods that have been stuck outside the top 15 etc finally get a good look in.

Maybe it can be done by just starting the download and cancelling, I haven't tried. But I don't see how downloading prevents exploits. As long as users can only endorse a file once, what's the difference? What am I missing?

Your missing that you already voted on the vault if everybody voted for what they thought was good before and forgot the others again it's the same old boring top 15 hall of fame nonsense. Let people lucky dip to start with and see where it goes.

And you know I'm not saying that because I haven't had my fair share of votes because I've got more than most. Don't you think it would be rather nice to start again and forget all this competition like bull**** ?

We made it a requirement that users download the file (in essence you don't need to complete the download, just start it) and wait 3 hours to endorse files. The reason was because some mod authors were pathetic enough to create multiple accounts that they could use to rate up all their files. By adding extra hoops for them to jump it meant that they lost the incentive to keep making new accounts to do this.

When you download a file it gets stored in your download history. You can use that page to see the files you download, endorse files you haven't already endorsed, or see the timer for when you're allowed to endorse files that you've downloaded recently.

The nexus is sort of a fresh start and will be instrumental in helping some modders (read - me) break their attachment to high votes or top 15 standing. It will also be good to help other mods which may have been overlooked to get more attention. I've noticed there is already some traffic on the nexus as far as downloads goes, so that is a good sign. I've had more nexus downloads than vault downloads since I uploaded to nexus - but that makes sense since the nexus crowd hasn't seen any of these mods yet, so we will probably see more downloads there fore awhile. If the nexus crowd is big enough, we may see a return of the 10K+ download days. Wouldn't that be a treat!

Well, I downloaded Google Chrome and the little progress info in the bottom left helps me feel better that the files are uploading Image IPB.

I finished uploading 270MB+ of the IWD campaign in maybe 10-15 minutes...so much better than I am used to with my 13 25MB files on the other site Image IPB.

Ah, one of the things about the Nexus that uploaders should know is that no matter what your file is named, it will be renamed to whatever you type in the "File name" field when you upload it. So if you type "These are the HAK files" in there, we'll be downloading files called "These are the HAK files.7z", etc. I recommend making sure to have the name of your mod in the file name, so when we download them they don't get mixed up with other mods.

@Tsongo: I'm not looking for a competition, top list, or anything like that. If I play a module and I like it, endorsing it is a way to recommend it to other people. I don't see any problem with that. If I like it, I'll recommend it. If I don't like it, I won't. Simple as that. If you don't like the endorsement system you're free to ignore it.

@DarkOne: I figured that much, I guess that makes trolling more complicated/annoying, but I didn't know if there was some other reason. There may be also things that I would endorse but I don't download myself, like Shaughn's throwing boulders or Casa's skin pack. I haven't downloaded and installed those myself, but I've played modules or PWs where they were used. But well, I guess you have to fight trolls somehow.

Ah yes, good point. Use the "File name" field to name your mod file according to how you want the file name to look on your hard-drive. Use the "Small description" field to better describe what the file does.

That's a good point, but hard to overcome... for example, my skins are clearly not for players, they can't use them for anything, only module builders can at this time. Same goes for a lot of other haks. Players see them eventually when they play your module or persistant world, but rarely download them themselves. I have a lot of favorite vault content I could vote for hours and hours, but only downloaded a very small percentage myself. The rest I only know from the usage of module builders.
That's maybe one of the main differences to the Bethesda games where modules and PWs simply don't exist and players deal with modifications directly.

Dark0ne, could you perhaps create an article with that information, and other information such as what features modders can enjoy on the Nexus? That could make a good initial news post for the front page -- an introduction to the Nexus for users coming from other sites.

One feature I enjoy is the "manage your files" page, where I can look at all of my uploaded files on one page, and see the numbers of views, downloads, comments, endorsements, etc.

Similarly, for comments, I can click the "view forum thread" link, and from there subscribe to that thread on the forum, and afterward I can simply monitor my forum subscriptions page to see when and by whom the comments were made for all of my mods.

Also, it would be nice to have a guide for NWN newbies on the various file formats and where to install them. I had a hard time with that when I was first starting out with NWN, because I couldn't initially find the information online, and the mod download pages generally assumed I already knew. I have friends who have just purchased the games for the first time, especially with them being available on GOG, Steam, Gamersgate, etc.

slowdive.fan.. 15 minutes ! I'm looking at 9 hours and I still haven't completed part 2 yet ! I'm waiting for it to stop, bunging in the last part and leaving it overnight.

Arkalezth.. I know you've played a lot of mods and will balance it out well but I just think it's wrong but that is a really good point with the hak paks.. Hmmm.

Dark0ne- I did that already because I didn't know what else to put in. What a result because I'm not uploading them again !

Also, you don't need to upload the files again to change their file name.  You can edit the files from the management screen and change them directly under "edit attributes".

Tchos.. Good because I'm bound to **** something up I'm not very good with this sort of thing !

Tell you what though it might be taking me the longest to download but I've definitely got the best advertising there's some flashing cartoon of a Fairy Tale right above my mod ( they just spelt it wrong but I'll let them off ) !
