Another thought just occurred to me. What about NWN3? Aren’t they going to need a vault for that? There is going to be a NWN3, right? Or at least I thought there was going to be.

Looks like the Vault's not down after all. An updates in at long last!

Well presumably NWN 3 will come at some point. I'm more worried about it being saddled with 4e nonsense than its existence being a question though.

Oh don't worry Taurus Daggerknight, there's no NWN3 actually in the blocks at this time and it's already been announced that the shinier, better, more cooler, newer and most up to date back to basics edition is already in the works. Wait for it: D&D 5.0 is in development!

Yeah, baby, yeah. Not satisfied with the crappy reception (monetarily, I'm betting) with 4.0, instead of recanting like Galileo under pressure from the Church, they're just going to revise the whole thing another time, proving once again that they can make the Earth revolve around the Sun -- or, was that the Sun revolves around the Earth? Jupiter is a fixed star? Pluto's a planet?

Well you get the idea. Now that Atari has given up it's court battle and the rights to further develop and produce D&D licensed titles, it's going to be a couple years, I think before anyone bites at another major launch of an NWN inspired title. First, 5.0 has to take the Spellplague and just erase it, calling everything in 4.0 a "fever dream" wherein magic was shaky, but somehow got restored to it's former glory and Elminster becomes Ao's Avatar in Aber-Toril and Athas, Krynn and Oerth all get new covers that look a lot like the AD&D 2.0 artwork, because, so far, that was on the whole, the best artwork.

Sorry everyone, I struck while the iron was hot there.

I'd still like to discuss the potential End Times of the Vault and if you would too, please PM me with dates and times that are good for you. I'm leaning towards at least an initial powwow Saturday or Sunday this weekend on IRC. PM me with times and ideas.

NWNO is the closest we'll get to a NW3...and in that case NWN2 is the closest we'll get to a NWN3.

Well that is sad, but I though at the last Gen Con that Atari did hint of a new Never Winter Nights in the works or something like that?

I'm actually quite impressed by the Nexus network and how good it works - very modern, user-friendly and reliable. Last but not least not overrun by spambots. I'd be all for a Nexus site as an escape plan, but of course that's not on us to decide.

Okay, I was going to wait a bit longer, but a few folks seem to want to get talking right now, and I'm completely cool with that. So a preliminary IRC meeting will take place Sunday 12 Feb 2012 (that's tomorrow night for most of us -- you international date line early birds, it will just less than 24 hours from the time stamp in this post.

Please check the IRC sticky above for connecting to IRC NWN2chat. Mind the last post in the IRC sticky for the latest connection address to get to nwn2chat (or whatever it's officially called.) I will be creating a room called Vault Apocalypse just prior to the starting time which you are free to join once on the chat. I have a tentative agenda and will also maintain a chat log for those that cannot attend.

Hope to see you there!

Nine o'clock Eastern Standard Time Feb. 12th.

Here is a time zone converter to help you figure out what time it is where you live.

So 2 AM GMT, so 3 AM here, so don't count much on me.

Edit: When you're finished, be sure to post here what has been said, so everyone can opine.

Clashing with the need to rise early. Maybe I can stay for a little bit, but just maybe, I can't make any promises. I don't think I'm the only one with this problem, anyway, it's not easy to find a moment that's good for people all over the world.

3 am? Where do you live? I thought WCT was 4 hours ahead of ECT?

Spain. Which west coast? If you mean US, I think that's 3 less than EST.

Sadly, Monday exists. This is unfortunate on many levels.

If it's somewhere, we can rebuild it then.

What we need is for everyone to go and download a few pieces of the Vault. Civilisation as we know it may fall, but from the ashes a new age shall rise, reborn!
Seriously, this sounds like the best of post-apocalyptic epics right here (kinda like Day of the Triffids crossed with The Final Empire).

But, in all seriousness, there's a lot of stuff in the Vault. Even if this is all just a hiccup, one day it's going to collapse on us, and we need to think about what's actually going to happen. I look at the vanishing of some the BG community sites for comparison and there are still things people can't find there. The scale of NWN2 community content is just so much greater, though.

So anyway, 2AM is not a great time for me, but I imagine you guys will keep the rest of us posted.

"...and then I woke up and realised it was all a dream."
A clichéd but relieving conclusion to the High Fantasy Epic which was 4th Edition, where our erstwhile protagonist is knocked down by a mad Druid's Rhino companion and awakes to find himself immersed in a world where the sword and sorcerer of the real world is as alien to the natives as their strange powers are to him.

You live in that timezone too?  I posted a timezone calculator so you could see when it is where you live.  It is happening 9pm Eastern Standard Time (United States).  If you can't make it, don't worry, I'm sure DNO will post the results of the chat.
