Just to throw another idea out there, I've never spoken to Maximus, but I certainly wouldn't mind speaking to him and seeing if there's anything I can do to help out, or indeed if there was any possibility of a merger.

We don't necessarily need to move our work only copy it to the nexus. Yes, having it in two places increase the updating process, but I believe that The Vault and The Nexus can easily co-exist as they probably attract slightly different crowds. This way we get exposure to players that may never have seen our work or even knew it existed.

Currently the Vault is not updating or uploading files correctly. Not sure if this is being worked on or not, but I know of two authors that can't get stuff on the Vault...

I would not mind a Nexus alternative...Can we get that going?

It might look like there's not enough interest, at least I expected a bit more. This thread has some thumbs up, but the thread over at the Nexus site wasn't much frequented, the NWN1 community wasn't asked and this thread is quite hidden too. It'd be nice to know if Maximus heard of it or if Dar0ne contacted him.

I think Maximus only comes on like once a week to update everything.

I was just over at the Nexus and I didn’t see too many *NWN2 Regulars* posting anything to support the idea. If where going to make this thing happen we need to get over there and *post* to give the illusion that a lot of people want this.

I don't think there would be much difference if a couple of us posted on Nexus especially since DarkOne is already aware of this thread.

From what I can tell, the biggest issue right now is how Maximus from NWVault feels about all this. I know there was talk about contacting him, but has anyone sent a message to him since then?

Is there a way of contacting Maximus past using the Mail Submission Form on the Vault?

Email him directly, Mokah contacted him recently so she must know the exact address. I'm guessing it'll be something like maximus@vaultnetwork.com, or similar, but I can't confirm it.

Ok, I've emailed Maximus with the following:

Hello Maximus,

I don't believe we've ever spoken, but my name is Robin Scott and I run Nexus Mods (http://www.nexusmods.com). Hopefully you know about us; we're a community of 3.4m members, and 20,000+ mod authors for a few games, including the Dragon Age series.

I'm writing to ask if you had seen the recent discussion on the BioWare Social Network regarding the situation at the Vault, and whether you would be willing to provide your input on the situation. In case you haven't seen the thread, you can find it here: http://social.biowar...index/9196246/1

A few users have become concerned about the Vault's future and have been in contact with me to see if I would be willing to start up a Neverwinter Nexus site to help provide some relief and backup. I wanted to get your thoughts on this rather than just wade in to the community with no regard for the people who have been influentual in building it.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,
Robin

Anyone having Vault issues with content or login issues needs to email Maximus directly (don't use the vault form) at maximus@vaultnetwork.com.

He's pretty responsive and has always done a great job, so if something isn't getting fixed, you need to let him know.

Maybe that should be stickied.

Maximums posted this news up on the Vault, so I guess that settles that.

Well, as I said, I'd still like a Nexus alternative if possible, as I prefer that site over the Vault and could be good for the community... But that's up to you, and if you'd be willing to do it if the Vault still works.

Dito.

The Nexus has some advantages over the vault I'd really like to see, and I doubt the vault will ever get an overhaul with similar options. I think it should still be considered....

I'm just not sure it's going to get used, guys. I hate to put arbitrary numbers on to things, but I don't think I'd want to spend the time doing this if I think it's unlikely the site would get at least a couple of hundred file uploads in the first couple of months. And considering the speed of the community these days, and the fact many people have moved on, I can't see that happening. Can you?

I can see it happening, yes. Even with all the problems people have been having with inability to access their accounts to upload their new content, and others who say they uploaded content which never appeared, I count 48 uploads of new content on the Vault for the month of February. I have a hard time believing that the opening of a new Nexus wouldn't attract the traffic to meet your criterion.

I have 1 single-player module already released, a sequel being released this month or next, I have approx 3 re-skins, 4 visual effects that I have on the vault.

That is a total of 9 uploads I can put on a NWN2 nexus site.

200 files? Definitely. I mean, I can understand and will respect your decission if you don't want to go through the trouble of puting the site together if not needed. But many active modders have bunch of uploaded content they can copy, and people still play and mod the game even if these forums aren't so active anymore. I can't speak for everyone of course, but I think 200 files wouldn't be hard to reach, specially if we're counting both games.

Now, if that means keeping the rythm of, say, 100 uploads per month afterwards, probably not. But a base of a couple hundred, yes, IMO.

This community has repeated a debate about NWN2's longevity quite regularly over the past two years, so I don't want to rehash old threads, but it seems to me that while NWN2 is showing its age and modders are getting frustrated by the limited of the old creaky engine and toolset, it's still the best platform for creating new and unique content, and will continue to be so for the foreseeable future. The irony is that we seem to have more modders and better content coming out, even as the player base is shrinking. I think that if people knew that NWN2 wasn't just a 6-year-old cRPG, but a steady stream of fresh, free, and near developer-quality content, then the numbers would come back.

I don't know if a nexus site would cause that to happen. It could be that the community itself is what keeps things going, judging by how well the NWN folks are doing, and how other communities provoke moderator crack-downs.

For what it's worth, I can promise to post my two bits.

I have four modules for nwn2 and two for nwn1 that I could add. I also will be releasing IWD NWN2 remake in less than a week which will have 20+ hours of game play. As I have said before, I don't see a problem with having my projects on both sites as they may reach players that they would not have if my projects only existed in one place.
