Mokah: Of course it's not so important, and I said in my first post about it that it could be just something temporary, but since it was being discussed already, there's no harm in giving one's opinion.

tie ins to the NWN wikis?

Do you mean, just links to those sites? Also, just noticed that there's a Nexus wiki, I guess we should add a NWN section.

Will the forums remain here on bioware or move to nexus too?

There are no plans on finishing with anything for now (specially with the forums), the Nexus is just an alternative to the Vault to handle files.

In my haste to get the site setup I had indeed forgotten about the smaller resolutions. It'll just mean moving a few things closer to the borders on the PSD.

The background image can be found here if needs be. No need to share the PSD as it isn't detailed or hard to edit that JPG at all.

What about the Hall of Fame award? Will that be recognized at the Nexus site? Probable not...

I've never used Nexus but just took a look around a moment ago. Can the nexus site present a daily digest of submissions like the vault does on the home page? I find that immensely helpful for "at a glance" browsing.

I didn't look at the nexus content submission tools, but I agree that that is where the vault was absolutely horrible. It would be nice if we could get the front end and back end of the site to be optimal though.

The "Latest files" link is analogous to a daily digest, except that it's updated immediately every time a new file is uploaded.  You'll get 10 pages of the newest files.  If you want a list of a specific day's uploads, you can do a search restricted to a particular day.

I have experience with the file upload system with other games, and I can tell you it's superb.  Uploads are automatic, and you set the informational fields in the same way you do when you upload a video on Youtube, if you've ever done that.  Files appear in the list and are available for download immediately, though you may want to set the file to "hidden" until you've finished uploading all the files and/or screenshots.  You can also add links to any Youtube videos you might have to illustrate your mod, and those will appear embedded in a "videos" tab on your download page.

There are file management tools, and you can flag certain files as optional or as older versions, and others as the main or required files.  Files can be tracked by users, and there's an automatically generated list of whatever updates you may make to the files or other information on the entry.  Each entry gets a dedicated comment thread and a discussion area.  Users can also upload their own screenshots of how they used your file, which appear in a separate image tab, and which can be allowed or deleted by the mod author.

Views, downloads, and unique downloads are tracked, and files can be both endorsed by users, and voted on for file of the month.

All in all, you have a very high amount of control over your own content.

A suggestion I'd make, so as to identify the Hall of Fame winners and other awards, would be to include a "Hall of Fame" tag that could be applied to files by moderators, so searches could be filtered by Hall of Fame winners.  I say "by moderators" to make sure people aren't just adding the tag to files that didn't win such an award.

Cipher,

About the forums...the community will do what they are going to do, but I personally would like to leave this sad sack of a forum behind and have it all unified under one spot. I know that is a pipe dream, but I just think we got splintered, not because of our own efforts but because of massive corporate ineptitude.

I really dislike unity for unity's sake. It's better to have competition and options. Where ever the best forum is will eventually take over. I really don't want to bet which fails first, EA or Nexus and the wise thing to do is put important content on both.

Worked on the design today. Don't bother trying to use any of the functionality as it won't work.

Let me know what you think.

o_0  ...I think I just cam...twice;)

::put's on serious face::
For the record I think some people here are scrutinizing way too much, the design Dark0ne posted looks great, at least as good as the other nexuses if not better. The color scheme matches well, and frankly I'm too excited about the idea of a Neverwinter Nexus being created to even think about criticism.

As far as categories go, Tchos pretty much listed all the ones the vault uses, which seems to fit well enough. All the other nexus' seem to be organized at least somewhat similar to that.

As I am extremely eager to support this I'm going to start putting together a list of contacts of creators of popular mods on the vault who do not frequent the forums, so that we can get all our best content onto Nexus as soon as it goes up.

I didn't want to come over as criticizing at all, I'm as excited as everyone. It was just a suggestion because I think it could be a bit better (just my taste) and if I can't help with anything else I thought I could at least suggest something here. I know most of you people probably only care for the functionality, but that's the part where I have no doubts it'll work anyway, I've used the Nexus long enough and know it'll turn out good. Also, I can't offer much help there, I'm no geek. :)
As for design though, I know since existing players care more for functionality, once a design is up it probably won't change anymore, so I thought better make the best of it now before anything gets uploaded and never changed again. I always have the advertising to possible new players in mind who I'd want to get interested in this old game again, please don't take that the wrong way. Twas my attempt to help/support the idea.

Absolutely you can't even ask questions/comment on ME3 without buying the game now ! ( All you MOO people must be glad about origin now when you read some of the comments from players I know I'm quite pleased it put me off ).

Sorry off topic so here we go...

Very nice keep up the good work and for the record I couldn't care less about the colour or hall of fame either. I'll watch this space to see when you you want my mods.

Tsongo.

ps. what happens to mods that link themselves to hak paks on the vault rayther than carrying their own hak that includes it ? this doesn't affect me but I know some mods that do that.

And your solution to being splintered is to move to yet a 3rd forum so even more people get lost in transition?

The Nexus forums are good for discussing specific mods and issues with them, because a thread is automatically assigned to the mod page. We can still stay here for general chatter I guess?

Dark0ne, I really like the design.
Perhaps we should worry more about the mechanics of moving the content and letting ppl know it's being moved, and then worry about the aesthetics?
Don't get me wrong, the LOOK will be critical, it should grab attention and holds ppl there, but as a proponent of the move over, I think we should resolve how it will be done, and how we will let everyone know it is being done. Yes?
E.

You are so negative..  Just how will that happen with modules etc linked to/ on the same site as the forums instead of  just having the comments on them ? I think it would definitely be an improvement, at the moment you get mods from the vault but your forum comments come here, that's splintered !

Just think you might not get so upset in the future if people commented on forums and you could assist them/explain before they posted directly on your module.

I don't want you to think that I was critisizing your criticism... :D  I just don't want people to get hung up at this point on things that are in design flux.  There is a design consistancy for Nexus mods so some elements I don't see changing, but color scheme and background picture are two areas that can be changed out pretty quickly.

At anyrate, I'm glad this is getting off the ground.

The NWN Nexus page looks great, definately looking forward to this.

As for tags I think it may be best to look at some the sub-categories that the vault used for tags. They will create searchable groups that we are used to working with.

Some examples:

HAKS.............................. Prefab Areas................................ Modules (probably expand these choices beyond just SP/MP)
-Armor............................ -Interior...........................................-No Story: Leveler
-classes .........................-Exterior..........................................-Linear Story
-Races ...........................-Day/Night Cycles..........................-Hack & Slash
-Monsters ......................-by environment..............................-Role Playing
-Feats ............................-........................................................-Sandbox, openplay
-Weapons

Alrighty then, the site is now 99% operational. The only things missing are file tags which I'll wait for some confirmation from you guys on a tag list.

For all intents and purposes the site is finished, or at least, all the functionality will work. If you were planning on uploading your files to the site then you could do so now. Indeed, it would be great if you could do that so I can announce the site within the next 24 - 48 hours and for there to be 20+ files already on the site for people to download (and see the site is being used).

Feel free to bring up other technicalities as well.

This is fantastic news.  I'll get on it tonight, and when my sequel comes out in the next week or so, I'll upload it there as well....  so exciting!  Thank you so much for this.

Could this give the Community Script Library a new home? I really felt that Pain's hard work on that was under-appreciated when it was on the Citadel, let alone when the Citadel closed.

Beyond that, it would be wonderful for the community to have a centralized place to discuss Plan 9 again. Whether that would fit at the Nexus or not is an open question, I suppose.
